Salty Salty Speedway is the second course of the Banana Cup in Mario Kart World, and is the third checkpoint of the Spiny Rally. It is set in a town named Lagoon City that vaguely resembles Venice and Amsterdam, and features a statue of Birdo as a mermaid in reference to the statue The Little Mermaid in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is located just east of the large bay in the south of the game's map. The course has racers drive on the canals for much of its area, and is the only course in the game where players start the race with their karts in their boat mode.

Outside of Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, this is the first new course in the series' history to be in the Banana Cup.

This course also appears as a stage in Battle mode. An arrangement of the theme for Delfino Pier from Mario Kart Wii plays on this version of the course.

Course layout[edit]

The course starts in a canal, with slightly higher walkways on the sides, which turns left then back to the right. There is a boat with a sloped back. The canal exits into an upward sloped 270° turn to the left, which leads to a set of stairs that head further upwards. Here, there are square turns to the left then right, with grass that can be cut across. After this is a straightaway with a ramp, then a square turn to the right, leading to a drop back into the canals. The canal here slopes downward, with a left turn halfway through. There are also several opportunities to get on the walkways here. After the sloped section, there is a turn to the right, where the walkways slope to a higher point. There is then a very wide water section, with a large right turn leading to the finish line.[2]

Battle[edit]

Salty Salty Speedway is also used as a Battle course. Like the other tracks in the top row—Mario Bros. Circuit, Moo Moo Meadows, and Peach Stadium—Salty Salty Speedway's Battle course takes place on the racing course, with additional pathways opened for a traditional battle experience. Salty Salty Speedway is the only one of these courses where part of the race course is blocked off (other than Peach Stadium where only the Special Cup variant is blocked off). Salty Salty Speedway opens up the town area to the left of the starting line and another town area in the middle. The race course's starting line is located directly in the center of the Battle course.

Routes[edit]

There are three distinct paths that enter Salty Salty Speedway, depending on the route taken to reach the track. Traveling from tracks in the Banana Cup—Peach Beach, Dino Dino Jungle, or Great ? Block Ruins—has the racers enter from after the final turn, just before the starting line. Traveling from tracks in the Star Cup—DK Pass, Sky-High Sundae, or Wario Shipyard―has the racers travel under the start of the water section at the end of the track, turn to the left and travel down the middle of the track, then take the final turn of the track. Traveling from Faraway Oasis or Cheep Cheep Falls has the racers glide from the top of the track down through the middle of the track, then take the final turn of the track.

While Sky-High Sundae can be used as a route to Salty Salty Speedway, the reverse is not true; Salty Salty Speedway does not have a route leading to Sky-High Sundae, a trait shared with Sky-High Sundae's route to Cheep Cheep Falls.
