Ride helis[1] are controllable helicopters found in Mario Kart World. They are large yellow Klepto-themed helicopters featuring a black nose resembling its beak, prominent engine fans with eyelid-like covers and large claws which hold on to a red container-like base with the number 96 stamped on it, referencing Super Mario 64's (and the Nintendo 64's) release year. When in flight, their fans display a holographic sign saying "Mario Kart" with neon white letters against a red backdrop. When parked, their entrance is open, showing a dark interior with glowing streaks of light and a ? Block symbol at the center.
By driving into the ride heli, players are able to take temporary control of the aircraft, which grants them a larger size, increased speed, and invulnerability to obstacles. Players may pilot the helicopter for a total of 20 seconds, after which they get launched forward in glide mode as it disappears. The helicopter's horn will sound three times consecutively when it is about to disappear, with the last horn releasing them. In Free Roam, ride helis are found landing on helipads in Crown City. They can also occasionally fly above the world, dropping Item Boxes with parachutes.
While piloting a ride heli, Photo Mode cannot be accessed. The player also cannot rewind to a time prior to exiting the vehicle.
On the sides of the red container, the following brands are advertised:
