Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary Trial Play Event

The Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary Trial Play Event was an event held by Nintendo of Hong Kong. The event was held in New Town Plaza, Sha Tin from March 23 to April 9, 2026. The event was part of the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary celebration and featured exclusive merchandise. On the first day of the event, media events took place at the event from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., while public admission began at 5:00 P.M.

The event featured multiple areas and activities themed around the Super Mario franchise.

Demo Area[edit]

Within the Demo Area, participants could play various Super Mario–franchise games available for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems. The games featured were Mario Kart World, Mario Tennis Fever, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park. The demo for Meetup in Bellabel Park first became available on March 27, 2026. After completing the demo, participants received a sticker themed after the game, in addition to a pamphlet for a stamp collection activity. Aside from the sticker for Meetup in Bellabel Park, all of the available stickers were also given out at Super Mario Experience 2026. To play one of the demos, participants needed to get a numbered ticket from the machine near the reception area, as well as enter how much time they wished to play. The maximum amount of time the participant could play for was ten minutes. After this, they needed to bring the ticket to the event's staff.

Photo Area[edit]

In the Photo Area, participants could take pictures with various walls themed around the Super Mario franchise. One of these was The Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary History Wall, which featured a timeline of Super Mario–series games beginning with Super Mario Bros.. Additional photo locations included a wall depicting Mario fighting Bowser in Super Mario Bros., Mario standing near Luigi on a Warp Pipe in Super Mario Bros., Mario jumping in World 1-1 in Super Mario Bros., a large Warp Pipe against a generic Super Mario–themed background, and a wall depicting artwork from Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park.

Mario & Luigi Meet and Greet

A meet-and-greet with Mario and Luigi was held in this area on March 28, 2026; April 4, 2026; and April 6, 2026. Each meet-and-greet time slot lasted twenty minutes, with the earliest slot being at 2:00 P.M. and the latest being at 4:15 P.M. To attend the meet-and-greet, participants needed to go to the reception desk at 1:00 P.M. on the day the meet-and-greet took place and get a ticket to the event. Participants then needed to arrive at the Photo Area ten minutes before the meet-and-greet. The meet-and-greets were done in groups of up to four people, with three total photos allotted.

Character Stamp‑Collection Activity[edit]

The Character Stamp-Collection Activity allowed participants to receive exclusive merchandise. After obtaining the pamphlet for the Character Stamp-Collection Activity in the Demo Area, participants were to go to the reception desk to receive their first stamp. Participants were to then go to a park area and the atrium to receive two other stamps, after which they were to return to the reception area to receive a steelbook themed after the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary.

Nintendo Account Check-In[edit]

Upon checking in to the event via their Nintendo Account, participants received a Super Mario–themed sticker. Said sticker was also available at Super Mario Experience 2026. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to complete a survey. If the participant completed the survey, they received a fabric clip with the Nintendo Switch 2 logo.
