Smart Steering is a setting in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Kart World that automatically steers drivers onto the road. When enabled, an antenna is placed on the back of the player's vehicle, giving the vehicle the appearance of a radio-controlled car. When the automatic steering is activated by the driver attempting to drive off the road, the tip of the antenna glows yellow and bends in the direction of the automatic steering.

The automatic steering allows the vehicle to turn in tighter directions than normal steering allows and can turn the vehicle while in the air. However, when Smart Steering is enabled, the third and final level of Mini-Turbo, Ultra Mini-Turbo, cannot be achieved.

In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, flags are added to vehicles when playing in teams in the Battle modes Renegade Roundup, Coin Runners, and Shine Thief. When Smart Steering is enabled, the antenna serves as the pole of the flags. Tournaments in the game can allow ("Smart Steering OK") or prohibit ("No Smart Steering") turning Smart Steering on.
