Starview Peak is the second race course of the Star Cup in Mario Kart World. It is the only new course in the cup, and is the first checkpoint of both the Ice and Spiny Rallies. It takes place in and around a building that resembles the Comet Observatory, located on top of an icy mountain in the arctic region of the game's map.[2] The music also contains a melody from the Comet Observatory theme in Super Mario Galaxy. Visually, the course is similar to Rosalina's Ice World from Mario Kart 7 and Ice Ice Outpost from Mario Kart 8, and is internally named after the former. Kamek used on this course will turn racers into Snowman, Chargin' Chuck, Nabbit, or Coin Coffer.

Course layoutEdit

The course starts with a sequence of wide turns with smooth transitions. It starts off turning to the left, then turns left again, then gradually slopes upwards, then goes into a slight right turn, followed by a mildly sharper turn with two paths at different heights, one green (lower) and one yellow (higher), similar to Ice Ice Outpost. The yellow path, on the outside of this turn, has several Dash Panels, while the green path has none. After this, there is a short fall down to a right turn, at the end of which is a Glide Ramp jump.

The next section is covered in shallow water, and has several rings with a snowflake design. The road here has a slight bend to the left leading into a right turn, with three rings to drive through. Another right turn follows shortly afterward, leading into a downhill with a ramp that gives a boost through a ring. One more right turn leads to a Glide Ramp. There are two rings that can be glided through on the way down to the final stretch, before crossing the finish line.[2]

RoutesEdit

Almost every route to or from Starview Peak makes use of Item Rings. On the route leading from Boo Cinema, the start of the route has the player (almost) complete a full lap of Ghost Valley 1, only missing the first straightaway and final turn. The route from Mario Circuit passes through Dandelion Depths at about the halfway point, causing the last half of the Mario Circuit route and the Dandelion Depths route to be identical in layout.

All routes enter the library below Starview Peak into a split path before converging onto the main track. There are three paths leading up to this library:

  • DK Pass and Cheep Cheep Falls glide up the frozen waterfall in the middle. Both of these routes travel up part of the DK Pass battle course. Routes leaving from Starview Peak to either of these courses travel down the entirety of the DK Pass battle course.
  • Boo Cinema, Mario Circuit, and Dandelion Depths go up from the left icy path.
  • Sky-High Sundae and Wario Shipyard go up from the right icy path.
