Rollers[1][2] are obstacles in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. They appear only in Thwomp Ruins. If a racer touches a roller from the sides, it will only push them; however, if a racer touches a roller from either the back or the front, it will flip them over, causing them to drop three coins. Rollers appear after 45 seconds from the start of the race, where they begin rolling down a passage to the right of the entrance to the first cave. After falling from the passage, the rollers can go in two directions: either close to the right wall or into the void to the left. After exiting the cave, the first roller that appears rolls over a wall blocking a Glide Ramp, thus making it available for use. After the ramp opens, all rollers will pass over it and fall into the water, where they will enter an underwater passage and disappear.
