"Baby Park"[1] is a musical theme in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, where it plays in the race course of the same name. This theme starts in F major, then goes to F♯/G♭ major, and then G major before looping back to F major. The intro is also based on the "Minsky Pickup".

History[edit]

Mario Kart: Double Dash!![edit]

Mario Kart: Double Dash!! marks the first appearance of "Baby Park".

An arrangement of "Baby Park" plays in Tilt-a-Kart. This arrangement adds crash cymbals and swaps the backing piano chords for an organ, but it is otherwise near identical to the original theme. It also incorporates the first six notes of "Ground BGM" from Super Mario Bros. at the beginning.

Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[edit]

“On this title, the pitch of the music goes up after every lap. It'll really make your head spin! The horn and guitar parts give this arrangement tons of energy.”
Liner notes in the Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack

In Mario Kart 8 and the Nintendo Switch port, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as part of the Animal Crossing × Mario Kart 8 DLC, an arrangement of "Baby Park" arranged by Kenta Nagata plays in GCN Baby Park. It is likewise titled "GCN Baby Park" on the Nintendo Music app.

During gameplay, the theme now increases in tempo and goes up a key after every lap, making it the first classic course to do this (lap 1 in F major, lap 2 in F♯/G♭ major, lap 3 in G major, lap 4 in A♭ major, lap 5 in A major, lap 6 in B♭ major, and lap 7/the final lap in B major). On the final lap, the last part of the music starts to play instead of the beginning of it.

During Highlight Reels and in the official Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack album, the music plays in a style similar to its iteration in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, going up in key after each "verse", but not increasing in tempo.

A looping drum set beat is added to the instrumentation whenever the player is driving at top speed while in first place.
