"Fortress Theme"[2] is a musical theme in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where it plays in the fortress courses. It is an arrangement of "Tower Theme" from New Super Mario Bros. Near the end, however, it transitions into a new phrase not heard in the original. The enemies and power-ups react to the strings in the beginning of the track and the slow arpeggios the same way they do with the "paah" vocals in the rest of the game's soundtrack. This arrangement would be used for the rest of the New Super Mario Bros. series.

A remix of "Fortress Theme" is used in New Super Mario Bros. 2, featuring paah vocals in place of the strings and twirls from the original. The backing instrument is also now played much more harshly.
A woodblock beat is added to the instrumentation whenever Mario or Luigi are in their Raccoon or Fox forms respectively, and a bell synth arpeggiator is added to the instrumentation whenever the Gold Ring is active.

It plays in "An Indecent Proposal" when the Koopa Troopa soldiers surround Peach and Toad before Bowser proposes, in "Fighting Tooth and Veil" when Luigi's cage is submerged in lava, in "Grapple in the Big Apple" when Bowser shouts "I was finally gonna be happy!" at Mario as he chases him in Brooklyn, and at the 4:40 mark of "Super Mario Bros. Opus", which plays during the overall credits. All of these tracks were composed by Brian Tyler and appear in the film's official soundtrack.
