- "All is not well in the Ice Kingdom. A powerful leader and his massive army are attacking! To find out the name of the bad guy, write the letter that comes before each of the letters below on the blanks."
This is a word puzzle where the reader has to write out Bowser's name by figuring out what letter comes before each letter.
- Bow Before Bowser!
- "Bowser is King of the Koopa's. He's big and scary and travels in a huge airship-which holds his entire army! Use the grid to help you draw Bowser."
This is an activity where the reader has to draw Bowser by using the grid above.
- "Bowser wants to take over all the other kingdoms! He finds the strongest Power-Up ever in the Ice Kingdom. Whoever has it becomes invincible! To discover the name of the Power-Up, start at the arrow and going clockwise, write every other letter in order of the blanks."
This is another word activity where the reader has to find the name of the Super Star by spelling out all of the other letters on a wheel.
Following this, there are posters of Mario and Luigi the reader can tear from the book.
- It's-a-Me, Mario!
- "This is Mario. He lives in New York City and dreams of becoming the best plumber in town! Use the grid to help you draw him."
This is an activity where the reader has to draw Mario by using the grid on the left.
- "Mario and his brother Luigi are ready to go on their next plumbing job in New York City. Look at the top picture. Can you find and circle four differences in the bottom picture?"
This is a spot the difference puzzle where the reader needs to find the four differences between two pictures. These include the sign for a barbershop, a yellow car being replaced by a red car, a child walking his dog, and a trash can.
- Pipe Maze
- "Most of the city's pipes are regular, but Mario and Luigi learn that one special pipe leads to another world! To reveal the name of the place Mario discovers, follow the maze of pipes and write the correct letters in each connecting box."
This is another word game, where the reader needs to follow the pipes that correspond to a letter and write the letter down in a box where the pipe ends to find the name of the Mushroom Kingdom.
- I Fear Nothing!
- "Mario meets Toad. He is a brave resident of the Mushroom Kingdom. Toad is loyal to Princess Peach and would do anything for her. To find the words that describe Toad, look up, down, backward, and diagonally in the puzzle."
This is a word search where the reader is tasked with finding the words that describe Toad. Those words are "adorable," "cheerful," "friendly," "eager," "trustworthy," "reliable," "adventurous," and "brave."
- Spot the Differences!
- "Look at the top picture. Can you find and circle five differences in the bottom picture?"
This is another spot the difference puzzle, where the reader is tasked with finding five differences between two pictures. These include Mario, Toad's pan, two ? Blocks, and Luigi.
- She Can Do Anything!
- "The Mushroom Kingdom is ruled by a kind and strong leader. To discover her name, solve the maze and write the letters along the correct path in order on the blanks."
This is a labyrinth where the reader has to follow the path that resembles the shape of Peach's Castle to find letters. The letters, when put together, spell "Peach."
Following this, there are posters of Peach and Toad. On the back of the posters, there is a game meant for two players where the player needs to try to make squares out of lines by taking turns. More points are given if the square is over a ? Block.
- Too Many Koopas!
- "Koopa Troopas are the foot soldiers of Bowser's army. Together, they can become a real threat-because there are so many of them! How many Koopa Troopas can you count here?"
The reader is tasked with counting Koopa Troopas with there being Koopa Paratroopas, Magikoopas, the Koopa General, and Bowser among them.
- Bowser's Most Loyal Henchman
- "This Koopa is Bowser's advisor and master of dark magic. To discover his name, cross out each letter of the alphabet that appears in order. Write the remaining letters on the blanks."
The reader has to find the name of the advisor by spelling out all of the other letters on a wheel. When spelled out, it reads "Kamek the Magikoopa."
- A Hero Like No Other!
- "To master Power-Ups, one must learn to navigate Princess Peach's training course without running into any Piranha Plants. Help Mario get through it unscathed."
This is a maze where the reader has to reach the finish while ? Blocks obscure the vision of the maze. There are also false exits that lead to Piranha Plants, and one leads to Bowser.
- "The Super Star is the most powerful Power-Up ever! It can make you invincible. If you could have any Power-Up, what would it be? Draw it!"
This is an activity where the reader has to draw the power-up they want to have.
Following this is a poster of Bowser the reader can tear from the book.
- Watch Out, Luigi!
- "Luigi gets separated from Mario and landed in a dark and creepy place in Bowser's territory! Help him get to the other side and avoid all the Koopa Troopas."

- Power-Up Again!
- "With Bowser taking over more and more kingdoms, look out for Power-Ups! Using the code below, write down the names of all the Power-Ups."
The reader is tasked with writing down the names of the Super Star, Super Mushroom, Mini Mushroom, Fire Flower, and Ice Flower while various items replace the vowels in the names. A's are replaced with Super Stars, I's are replaced with ? Blocks, E's are replaced with Fire Flowers, O's are replaced with coins, and U's are replaced with Super Mushrooms.
- Learn the Power-Ups!
- "To defeat Bowser and his army, you'll have to master each Power-Up and the abilities they give you. Match each Power-Up with its power."
The reader is tasked with drawing a line from the power-up to what it does.
- I'm Donkey Kong!
- "Draw a picture of Donkey Kong, and then color him like the picture below."

The reader is tasked with drawing their own kart.
- Home, Sweet Home!
- "To get back home, Mario and Luigi must travel through pipes, but it's been a long adventure for the brothers. Remind them where they're going by following the maze of pipes and writing the correct letters into each box."
This is another word puzzle where the letters have a pipe connecting them to a box. Together, they spell out "New York."
- The Super Mario Bros. Movie Poster!
- "Have an adult help you carefully remove the next four pages and trim the edges. Lay them facedown in the correct order. Tape the pages together and hang the poster on your wall- then flip it over later to enjoy the poster on the other side!"
The final four pages are papers that can be torn out. When put together, they form artwork made for the movie on both sides.
Throughout the book, there are removable cardstock characters and a background out of which the reader can make a playset.
Differences from the film[edit]

Errors[edit]
- Kamek is referred to as a Koopa on one of the pages, when he is actually a Magikoopa.
- In the activity "Bowser's Most Loyal Henchman," the text reads the alphabet will appear in order on the wheel, when the reader is actually supposed to read out every other letter on the wheel.
