4koma Land is a Japan-exclusive series of manga written and drawn by several artists, published by Keibunsha. Keibunsha has adapted several video game titles including some books based on Super Mario titles. Each book features a series of short and simple stories that are told in a 4-panel format called yonkoma in Japan; some of the titles adapted are Super Mario World, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, Mario & Wario, and Donkey Kong Country.

Four other series of books exist with the same premise and similar titles, named Super Mario 4koma Manga Theater (1991-1997), 4koma Manga Ōkoku (1991-2002), 4koma Gag Battle (1995-2004) and Super Donkey Kong 4koma Manga Theater (1995-1996).

Notes[edit]

A 1994 4koma Land Mario & Wario manga contained a drawing of a hypothetical Waluigi as a visual gag.

  • On page 104 of 4koma Land Mario & Wario, there is a drawing of a hypothetical Waluigi as a visual gag, which is very similar in design. However, this is a coincidence, as Waluigi debuted six years after the manga was released.
  • Depending on the artist, Wanda is depicted as either male or female, despite the fact that she is female.[2]
  • One of the artists featured in 4Koma Land Super Donkey Kong is Kiyohiko Azuma, who later became famous for Azumanga Daioh and Yotsuba&! [3]
