Go! Mario and Friends is a book added to the "Explore a digital book" section on McDonald's McPlay app in 2017 to promote the April–May wave of Super Mario-themed Happy Meal toys.[1] The book acts as a guide to the Mushroom Kingdom.

ContentsEdit

The book starts with the reader being welcomed to the Mushroom Kingdom. The book explains how it is meant to be used as an "Explorer's Guide." Each page of the book is focused on a character, a species, multiple enemies, or a power-up and provides profiles for them.

"Why we love Mario"
  • Mario has a strong sense of right and wrong
  • He is a loyal and brave friend
  • He is very athletic and loves sports
  "Look, it's Luigi!"

"Although he has a very famous brother called Mario, Luigi is a star in his own right. Jumping is an important skill to have on many levels in the Mushroom Kingdom. There's no one better at jumping than Luigi, so let's get practising!"

"Why we love Luigi!"
  • He will always fight for justice and what is right
  • He doesn't mind it when Mario takes the limelight
  • Luigi can jump even higher than Mario
  "Good day, Princess Peach!"

"Any journey to the Mushroom Kingdom wouldn't be complete without a tour of Princess Peach's castle and if you're lucky enough you might even get to meet Princess Peach herself. Don't forget to bow if you do!"

"Why we love Princess Peach!"
  • Princess Peach wants everyone to be happy
  • She has a kind heart and is very ladylike
  • She is unselfish and puts her friends before herself

"Hi there, Toads!"

"Toads are as cute as they are friendly, meaning they are super cute and super friendly! You'll see a lot of Toads when you're exploring the Mushroom Kingdom, so many you'll probably lose count!"

"Why we love Toads!"
  • Toads are very polite to everyone they meet
  • They work very hard serving their Princess
  • If you meet a Toad they seem very cute and cheerful

"Hello, Yoshis!"

"Why we love Yoshis!"
  • Yoshis are very kind hearted
  • They are very fast, even with Mario on their backs
  • Their long tongues extend to grab food in different places
  "Bowser"

"Not everyone in the Mushroom Kingdom is as nice as Mario and his friends. You should stay clear of Bowser and his baddies or find a power-up to help you defeat him!

"Why Bowser is such a baddie!"
  • He has a very short temper and gets VERY angry, VERY easily
  • He is always plotting something terrible, such as kidnapping Princess Peach
  • Bowser can breathe fire from his mouth!"

"Meet the rest of the baddies"

"Special Abilities"

"How it works" "This suit can be found in gameplay. When Mario wears it, he has extra special abilities, changing into Penguin form!"

"More Power-ups!"

"Check out Mario and these other cool power-ups to look out for when you're playing.

"Fireball!"

"When Mario finds a Fire Flower he gains the Fireball Power! Then he can destroy most enemies with a hot blast."

"Boomerang!" "When Mario finds a Boomerang Flower he can throw boomerangs at enemies. Also, he can use them to pick-up objects from a distance."

Notable mistakes and errorsEdit

  • On the cover, the ? Block's "?" symbol was edited out.
  • On Luigi's page, the word "practicing" is misspelled as "practising."
  • Koopa Troopas are incorrectly referred to as "Koopa Troopers."
  • The book says in addition to throwing ice balls, the Penguin Suit can also throw water, even though the Penguin Suit is never shown to do that in any piece of media.
