Super Mario Bros. is a one-shot Super Mario–franchise manga written by Yukio Sawada and is based on the eponymous game. It was his first Super Mario–related publication. It appeared in the February 1986 issue of Shōgaku Sannensei, a Shogakukan publication aimed at third-grade elementary students. Also for Shogakukan, Sawada would go on to create other Super Mario–inspired short stories for the kindergarten-aimed magazine Gakushū Yōchien, while for Tokuma Shoten, which invited him to work at Wanpakku Comic, he would start a full manga series called Super Mario Bros. 2, based on the sequel.
The one-shot was republished in the 40th volume of Super Mario-kun.[1]
