Super Mario Wakuwaku Game Land is a Super Mario manga series written and illustrated by Hiroshi Takase and published by Shogakukan. The series is aimed at very young readers, and consists of stories with puzzles interspersed within them.
The series started being known as Super Mario-kun from June 1986 to April 1991 being printed in Shōgaku Ichinensei magazine. It was then known as Dr. Mario in September to November 1990, where it moved magazines from Shōgaku Ichinensei to Shōgaku Ninensei. Its name changed again to Super Mario World from December 1990 to March of 1991 before its name changing back to Super Mario-kun from April 1991 to March 1996, where it was changed to Super Mario Wonder Land from April 1996 to February 1998. Finally, the manga became known as Super Mario Wakuwaku Game Land from March 1998 to the end of its run in April 2000.[1]
Four years later, Takase would make the third iteration of his Super Mario-kun manga series publishing it under the Pikkapika Comics label. Unlike the other Mario mangas he created, this was more story driven without any activities.

"Ano hikōki o Getto!" (February 1998)[edit]
Mario and Luigi visit Diddy Kong who was going to show them the vehicles he will be using in the upcoming race. But before he could, Bowser steals Diddy Kong's plane. Mario and Diddy Kong then decide to chase after Bowser to get the plane back. The reader then chooses if they want to go with Mario or Diddy Kong.
If the reader chooses Mario, Mario runs into a split path and he can either go to the hills or the sea. If Mario chooses the hills, a sign saying "No entry" shows up and the reader goes back to the first page to try again. If Mario chooses the sea, he rides a hovercraft and encounters a Big Blooper. The reader then plays a word game where they have to put in a letter so both words would make sense. If the player chooses "ラ", they would encounter the same sign from earlier, if the player chooses "イ", Mario defeats the Big Blooper and a treasure chest appears. If Mario chooses to not open the treasure chest, the chest explodes as Mario tries to go around it and the reader is set back to the first page. If Mario chooses to open it, Princess Peach and Toad are inside and they tell Mario that Bowser went left. After the encounter, the player is instructed to find five symbols that are not "ザ", once the symbols are found, Mario encounters a maze that leads to Bowser. The maze has two different exits. If Mario reaches the exit marked with "ラ", Mario and Diddy Kong run into each other and both are sent back to the first page. If Mario reaches the exit marked with "イ", Mario and Diddy Kong reunite as they are catching up with Bowser and the reader is instructed to spot the differences between two pictures. If the reader finds five differences, Mario and Diddy Kong crash into each other. If the reader finds seven differences, Mario and Diddy Kong jump out of their vehicles and jump into the plane as Bowser falls to the ground. Mario and Diddy Kong then reach the ground and Toad points out to them that their other two vehicles are completely wrecked.
If the reader chooses Diddy Kong, Diddy Kong runs into a split path and he can either go to the hills or a tunnel. If Diddy Kong chooses the hills, a sign saying "No entry" shows up and the reader goes back to the first page to try again. If Diddy Kong chooses the tunnel, Diddy Kong enters a room with tons of bananas. The reader is instructed to find five bananas that look alike. After the bananas are found, Diddy Kong eats the bananas while driving his car as a Paragaloomba yells at him to stop. If Diddy Kong chooses to stop, a rock drops on him. If Diddy Kong chooses to not stop, Diddy Kong drives around the rock. Diddy Kong then encounters a Pokey and asks if it has seen Bowser. The reader is then instructed to see if they understand a series of pictures. If the reader does not understand, they are sent to the sign saying "No entry". If the reader does understand, Diddy Kong goes towards what the Pokey was talking about: the flower garden. Diddy Kong then has to choose which way to go. If he chooses the right path, Diddy Kong encounters the sign again. If he chooses the left path, Diddy Kong encounters a maze that leads to Bowser. The maze has two different exits. If Diddy Kong reaches the exit marked with "ラ", he and Mario run into each other and both are sent back to the first page. If Diddy Kong reaches the exit marked with "イ", he and Mario reunite as they are catching up with Bowser and the reader is instructed to spot the differences between two pictures.
