The Mario Bros. have returned to the Mushroom World, though without their raccoon powers, they had to jump from block to block to reach the pipe leading to the fantasy world. Princess Toadstool was congratulating them for foiling King Koopa's plans, and decided to throw a party at her castle in their honor. However, Mario and Luigi had preferred that a spaghetti banquet be thrown at the castle instead.
Later, Mario is running on a path made of Note Blocks while a Bob-omb chases him. One of the Note Blocks falls on an anthromorphic spherical-shaped creature, and a boomerang (presumably thrown by a Boomerang Bro) is thrown towards Mario.
Meanwhile, Luigi is waiting for the time while Koopa is distracted and the power to snatch the Magic Wand from him, as with the power of the wand, he and Mario could send Koopa and the Doomship back to where they belong. Luigi then climbs up on one of the Doomship's masts and tightly grabs onto a rope.
