"Steam Gardens"[3][4] is a musical theme composed by Koji Kondo for Super Mario Odyssey, where it plays in the Wooded Kingdom and the third section of the Darker Side.

History[edit]

Super Mario Odyssey[edit]

Super Mario Odyssey marks the first appearance of "Steam Gardens". A remix of the theme that adds extra percussion and a synth-like instrument to the instrumentation plays while fighting the rotating defense mechanism and a Yoofoe. It is titled "Steam Gardens: Sherm Sector" in the Nintendo Music app and "Steam Gardens: Sherm" in the game's sound test.

A chiptune arrangement of "Steam Gardens" plays when Mario is in a 2D section of Steam Gardens. It is titled "Steam Gardens - 8-Bit" in the Nintendo Music app and "Steam Gardens (8-Bit)" in the game's sound test.

The theme that plays in Underground Moon Caverns within the Moon Kingdom and the seventh underground section of Darker Side where Bowser is captured quotes "Steam Gardens" approximately 34 seconds in. It is titled "Underground Moon Caverns" in the Nintendo Music app.

"Steam Gardens" is also included in the official albums Super Mario Odyssey Sound Selection and Super Mario Odyssey Original Soundtrack, alongside "Steam Gardens: Sherm Sector" and "Steam Gardens - 8-Bit" for the latter album.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the original version of "Steam Gardens" can play in any Super Smash Bros.-series and Super Mario-series stage.

Mario Kart World[edit]

Mario Kart World features two arrangements of "Steam Gardens".

A faster-paced blues rock arrangement of "Steam Gardens" can play in Free Roam during the day, on the route from Choco Mountain to Toad's Factory in the Lightning Cup, and on any VS Race route during the day. It is titled "Steam Gardens (Rock) (Super Mario Odyssey)" in the Nintendo Music app and simply "Steam Gardens (Rock Ver.)" in the game's pause menu.

A faithful Southern soul arrangement of "Steam Gardens" can play exclusively in Free Roam during the day. It is titled "Steam Gardens (Soul) (Super Mario Odyssey)" in the Nintendo Music app and simply "Steam Gardens (Soul Ver.)" in the game's pause menu. The corresponding Nintendo Music image depicts a race on DK Spaceport, a scenario in which the arrangement cannot play.
