"Music Box"[1] is a musical theme composed by Koji Kondo for Super Mario Bros. 3. It is played by the Music Box when used, and has the effect of putting all enemies on the world map to sleep. It is a half-time, music box arrangement of the fifth to eighth bars of "Ground BGM" from Super Mario Bros..

Super Mario Bros. 3 marks the first appearance of "Music Box."

Super Mario All-Stars[edit]

Super Mario All-Stars, its re-release, Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, and its Wii port, Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition, feature a 16-bit arrangement of "Music Box" with the same purpose as in Super Mario Bros. 3. The motif has been transposed down by four notes, and no longer features the delay effect. It was arranged by Soyo Oka.

In Super Mario Maker, an arrangement of "Music Box" plays in the game's manual. It includes the previous two bars of "Ground BGM" and a new original section.

Super Mario Maker 2 features two appearances of "Music Box."

Super Mario Maker's arrangement of "Music Box" returns, and plays in the game's Play Guide.

An arrangement of "Music Box" is also incorporated into the Story Mode's credits theme about 1 minute and 44 seconds in. The second time it plays, the motif of "Title Theme" is played on top of the arrangement.

Mario Party 10[edit]

In Mario Party 10, an arrangement of "Music Box" plays while revealing the distance of the losing team in the Bowser Party mode, titled "How Far Did You Make It?" in the game's sound test. It now has been transposed down by five notes, features synth pad chords and percussion, and includes only the first half of the theme.

The Super Mario Bros. 3 ~ Akihabara Electric Circus album features a funk medley of "Music Box," "P Switch BGM / Toad's House," and "Fireworks" as its eighth track, titled "The Lap." It was arranged by Koji Kondo.
