Mega Monty Moles, referred to as big Monty Moles in Yoshi's Crafted World,[1] are large variants of Monty Mole introduced in Super Mario-kun. They subsequently appear in the games, starting with Mario Party 10.
History[edit]
Super Mario-kun[edit]
A Mega Monty Mole, under the name Super Choropū (スーパーチョロプー,[2] "Super Monty Mole"), appears in volume 1 of Super Mario-kun, angry at Mario and Yoshi for killing its Monty Mole friends. It tries killing Mario and Yoshi, but it kicks Mario into a ? Block filled with Fire Flowers, which leads to it getting burned by Mario.
A Mega Monty Mole mother named Choropūko appears in volume 23 with her children. She gets mad at Mario for putting golf balls in her home.
Mega Monty Moles are the only species of Monty Moles to first appear in manga, to then later appear in games.
4koma Manga Kingdom[edit]
A Mega Monty Mole appears in the 4koma strip titled "Skyscraper Blues" in the second Mario Kart 64 volume of 4koma Manga Kingdom. They attempt to burrow through the hole seen in Big Donut, but they end up getting scorched by the lava. The Mega Monty Mole then attempts to dig through Block Fort, but fails due to the lack of a hole in the course.
Mario Party series[edit]
Mario Party 10[edit]
A Mega Monty Mole appears as the mid-boss of Airship Central in Mario Party 10. He appears in the minigame Mega Monty Mole's Maze Mischief, where the aim is to get through his maze to the different cannons, and then fire at him.
Mario Party: Star Rush[edit]
Another Mega Monty Mole appears in Mario Party: Star Rush as the boss of the minigame Mega Monty Mole's in the Hole, where players fight it and two explosive duplicates in a whack-a-mole-style game.
Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS[edit]
Big Monty Moles appear in Super Mario Maker, and later return in its 3DS port, as Monty Moles that can be enlarged with Super Mushrooms. They act the same as regular Monty Moles, only bigger.
Super Mario Maker 2[edit]
Big Monty Moles eventually return in Super Mario Maker 2, retaining their behavior in its predecessor; they can now be attached to parachutes.
Yoshi's Crafted World[edit]
Big Monty Moles are enemies in Yoshi's Crafted World. They are uncommon enemies always appearing in the background, and must be hit with two eggs to be defeated. It turns red when hit once. Big Monty Moles usually appear when a red Time Cloud is hit, and must be hit to make a Smiley Flower appear. They appear in several levels including Spring Sprung Trail, Monty-Mole-B-Gone, Haunted Maker Mansion, and The Countdown Begins.
