The Choropū-tachi is a group of three Monty Moles lead by a Mega Mole, and the main antagonist of the first chapter of Super Mario Bros. 4: Super Mario World 6 of the Super Mario Kodansha manga.
Infiltrated as Peach's Castle maintenance guys, the Choropū-tachi discover that a precious estimated Toadstool heirloom is being displayed in the new Hōmotsu-kan, the Golden Mushroom. Duing the opening ceremony, broadcasted on TV, the Choropū-tachi, using a Bowser-shaped vehicle with drills, cuts off the lights and steal the Golden Mushroom. During their escape, Princess Peach try to convince the thief to take her instead of the heirloom, but Choropū-tachi leaves (making Peach later think that he cannot be the real Bowser). Mario and Luigi arrive and, wanting to stop the thief, the former is invested by the Mushroom King as chief detective of the Special Kinoko Police. While investigating the Bowser-shaped hole left by the thief, Mario interrogates the Choropū-tachi, still acting as maintenance guys, telling Mario (under payment) that Bowser run to his hideout in the town's outskirt. With the police chasing a red herring, the Choropū-tachi decides to tunnel out of Peach's Castle grounds on the Bowser-vehicle.
Unfortunately for them, the group digs up right into the interrogation room of the police station. Busted, the Choropū-tachi attempts to escape on the F1 Hanachan, but swerves into a wall. The Mega Mole leader then tries to shoot Mario with a gun, but thanks to his star-shaped badge (carved from a Super Star), Mario becomes invincible, and the Mega Mole is caught by Yoshi's tongue. After arresting the Choropū-tachi, Bowser is set free.
