Hōmotsu-kan is the Toadstool family treasure museum, containing precious items such as statues and paintings that belong to the royal family. It debuted in Super Mario Bros. 4: Super Mario World 6 of the Kodansha manga series, but also appears in other volumes in the background. It is a peach-shaped building located in the Mushroom Castle's garden.
In the first chapter of its debut volume, Princess Peach inaugurates the museum on TV, showing off the main exposed item, the Golden Mushroom. Just then, the lights go off and a figure similar to Bowser steals the Mushroom. Mario and Luigi arrive to help, and the Mushroom King hires them as detective of the Special Kinoko Police to solve the case. Bowser is arrested, but he insists he did not steal the Golden Mushroom, despite being in financial difficulties, and Peach even backs him up, recalling that the thief, at the idea of kidnapping Peach instead of the item, refused. The real culprits are a group of three Monty Moles and a Mega Mole that pretended to be maintenance guys: the Choropū-tachi. Mario manages to arrest them and return the stolen Golden Mushroom.
