  • How long did it take you to compose the music for Super Mario 64?
It took about eight months to compose the music for Super Mario 64.
  • Do you ever run up against memory or CPU limitations when composing for a game?
Yes, we always run up against memory and CPU limitations. The N64 is so powerful, though, that we're still learning about writing music for it. That's one reason it took us so long to complete the music for Mario 64. I'm sure that we'll see big advancements in the realism and richness of future N64 scores.
  • Do you have any particular compositions that you're especially proud of?
The theme for Super Mario, of course. I am very proud of this piece, which both Paul McCartney and his wife Linda hummed to me when we met for the first time.
