"Bonus Chance: Lose"[1] is a musical jingle composed by Koji Kondo for Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros. 2, where it plays whenever the player loses the Bonus Chance minigame or lacks the coins to play it, as well as when the player loses a life.

Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic marks the first appearance of "Bonus Chance: Lose", and it returns in Super Mario Bros. 2 virtually unchanged. It is also included in the official albums FAMICOM 20TH ANNIVERSARY GAMEMUSIC DVD, Game Sound Museum: Mario Bros. / Super Mario USA, and Famicom Sound History Series: Mario the Music as part of a medley with "Bonus Chance" and "Bonus Chance: Win" from the same game.

In the Super Nintendo Entertainment System remake of Super Mario Bros. 2 in Super Mario All-Stars, an arrangement of "Bonus Chance: Lose" plays for the same purposes as in the original game.

In the Game Boy Advance remake of Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Advance, a slightly higher-pitched arrangement of "Bonus Chance: Lose" plays for the same purposes as in the original game.

Super Mario Maker[edit]

In Super Mario Maker, the original version of "Bonus Chance: Lose" plays when the player loses a life as Costume Mario with the Peach, Shy Guy, and Birdo costumes.

Super Mario Maker 2[edit]

In Super Mario Maker 2, the original version of "Bonus Chance: Win" plays when the player loses a life in their SMB2 form.
