"Game Start"[1][2] is a musical jingle composed by Koji Kondo for Super Mario 64, where it plays upon entering a main course. It is an arrangement of the first six notes of "Ground BGM" from Super Mario Bros. It uses the "paah" voice sample that would later appear in themes in the New Super Mario Bros. series.

Super Mario 64[edit]

Super Mario 64 marks the first appearance of "Game Start", and it returns for the same purpose in the Nintendo DS remake, Super Mario 64 DS, and the Nintendo Switch port, Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

Super Mario Odyssey[edit]

In Super Mario Odyssey, the original version of "Game Start" plays upon entering a warp hole in the Mushroom Kingdom that leads to a boss battle.

In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a vocalization of "Game Start" by Koji Kondo plays upon entering a course with the Sound Off? Badge equipped. It returns for the same purpose in the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park.
