Moving sand[1] is a variant of quicksand that flows rapidly and pushes the player.
History[edit]
Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS[edit]
Moving sand debuts in Super Mario 64 and reappears in Super Mario 64 DS, where it appears only inside the pyramid in Shifting Sand Land. It can push the player character off the platform if he stands on it.
Super Mario Galaxy[edit]
In Super Mario Galaxy and its Nintendo Switch port, moving sand appears in the Dusty Dune Galaxy. There are three planets that have moving sand. It can push Mario into obstacles such as cactuses.
Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]
In Super Mario Galaxy 2, moving sand appears in the Slipsand Galaxy. It can push Mario into a Fire Chain or can be used as a slope.
