Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS[edit]

★ doors appear in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS, where they lock access to rooms behind them, most of which contain courses, via a Star requirement. There are eight ★ doors in Super Mario 64 and nine in Super Mario 64 DS, each requiring a different number of Power Stars to open:

Zero Stars
One Star
Three Stars
Eight Stars (DS only)

Mario Pinball Land[edit]

★ doors return in Mario Pinball Land, blocking off areas of the game's stages, but this time open on contact, provided Mario has enough Stars.
