Jammyfish[1] (originally referred to as jellyfish in a general sense by Prima Games)[2] are underwater jellyfish enemies in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. They can be defeated with either a spin or a Koopa Shell and give a coin when defeated. Giant electrified versions called Jam-o'-Wars also appear in these games and require two strikes to defeat.
History[edit]
Super Mario Galaxy[edit]
In Super Mario Galaxy, Jammyfish are found in underground lakes. Groups made up of four Jammyfish swim in rings. Isolated Jammyfish passively suspend themselves in water and pulsate their bodies. They do not actively attempt to damage Mario (or Luigi), but direct contact with them depletes one wedge from his life meter. Unlike with a Jam-o'-War, the player does not get electrocuted when in contact.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]
In Super Mario Galaxy 2, a single Jammyfish appears in the Cosmic Cove Galaxy, swimming in a ring in a side-scrolling section.

Names in other languages[edit]
The contemporaneous name for each language is listed first. Subsequent names are listed in chronological order for each language, from oldest to newest, and have the media with which they are associated in the "notes" column. Names exclusive to localizations of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia are not prioritized due to concerns about circular reporting, and are only listed first for their respective languages if they are the only ones available.
