Black Jibberjay, Super Mario Galaxy 2

The Jibberjay Racers are a competitive five-member team in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Unlike the friendly orange-colored Jibberjays, each member of the team is a different color. The Jibberjay Racers periodically challenge Mario to a race through the sky in the two galaxies that feature Fluzzard: the Wild Glide Galaxy and the Fleet Glide Galaxy. The Jibberjay Racers appear only in the missions "Jungle Fluzzard Race" and "Fastest Feathers in the Galaxy," respectively.

Once Mario has completed the first mission of the Wild Glide Galaxy, he receives a letter from one of the Jibberjays, asking him to return to the galaxy for a race. The black-colored Jibberjay, the team leader, must be spoken to to initiate the race. When the race begins, Mario and Fluzzard typically begin trailing behind, necessitating immediate maneuvers to get ahead. Each Jibberjay Racer has unique speed and route through each galaxy, but the black one is the fastest. Once beaten, the black Jibberjay relays that it is impressed with Mario's skills, dubs him the new leader of the team, and awards him a Power Star as a trophy. Completing "Jungle Fluzzard Race" also sees an orange Jibberjay board Starship Mario as one of its permanent passengers.

Completing the first mission of the Fleet Glide Galaxy similarly results in a letter being sent to Mario. However, only the black-colored Jibberjay appears this time in a one-on-one race. It is a more challenging race than the one in "Jungle Fluzzard Race," and the galaxy itself is more hazardous with enemies, collapsing walls, and other obstructions. As before, defeating the black Jibberjay awards Mario a Power Star. None of the Jibberjay Racers occur outside these two missions.

The Jibberjay Racers are spiritual successors to the multicolored Penguin Racers from the first Super Mario Galaxy, and are similar to the Roving Racers and Shiverian Racers of Super Mario Odyssey.
