The pits[1] are objects in Super Mario Galaxy 2. They are holes embedded in the floor that have a Chomp sign on them. Mario (or Luigi) must guide a Chomp to these holes to make the Chomp explode and create a Launch Star. The pits appear only in the Chompworks Galaxy's missions "Where the Chomps Are Made of Gold" and "Cosmic Clones in the Chompworks", where they can be found on the Starting Planet, the Flipping Platforms Planet, and the Lava Chomp Planet. On the Starting Planet and Flipping Platforms Planet, the player must guide a Chomp to the pit while ensuring the Chomp does not touch any obstacles along the way. On the Lava Chomp Planet, the player must guide a Gold Chomp through a course of obstacles to make it fall into the pit, causing the Gold Chomp to explode and release a Power Star.
