"Forest Friends"[1] is a musical theme composed by Mahito Yokota for Super Mario Galaxy 2, where it plays in the Tall Trunk Galaxy missions "Tall Trunk's Big Slide" and "Tall Trunk's Purple Coin Slide". The theme features marimba and bass synthesizer instrumentation and is used as a leitmotif for Whittles.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 marks the first appearance of "Forest Friends", and it returns in the Nintendo Switch port, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, for the same purposes. It is also included in the official album Super Mario Galaxy 2 Original Soundtrack.
A remix that adds bongo percussion goes unused as it is intended to play whenever a player is riding Yoshi, who does not appear in either mission where the theme plays. A sequenced arrangement of the theme is also unused.[2]
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)[edit]

In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), a brief arrangement of "Forest Friends" arranged by Brian Tyler is incorporated one minute into the track "The Flight Deck". While the track does not play in full in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the arrangement's positioning suggests that it would have played during a scene where Princess Peach speaks to a Whittle.
