Chapter 1

マリオのぼうし強奪ごうだつだい作戦さくせん!(Operation Steal Mario's Hat!)

Now that Bowser left Dinosaur Land for good, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, and the freed dinosaurs are planning to go on a camping trip. What the group does not know, is that Bowser is still around (having set base at the ruins of one of the castles) and is projecting to ruin Mario's day and kidnap Peach. While trying to encourage his troops, Bowser notices Wendy fawning to a poster of Mario and rips it in anger. Wendy is in distraught, but finds consolation in her collection of Mario merchandise. Bowser murmurs that Mario is pretty popular despite not being that attractive, even calling him "old man" and suggesting that under his hat he is hiding a bald spot. From this comment, Magikoopa gets the idea that Mario's strength is given to him by his hat, and boosts the troops' morale by convincing them to steal it. For this, Bowser promotes him to royal advisor.

To their luck, Mario and friends are setting camps right near their headquarters. Magikoopa recommends waiting for them to sleep and snatch both Peach and Mario's hat, but hours goes by, and the campers are still singing to the moon, because the dinosaurs in the group are nocturnal and will only sleep in the morning. The next day, the dinosaurs go to sleep, and Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi leave the camp to go find some food to eat for breakfast. With Peach alone, Bowser disguises as Yoshi and goes to kidnap her. The rest of the troops try to take care of Mario, who is apparently picking up berries. A group of Chargin' Chucks try to him, but he kneels to grab a coin and the Chucks lands onto a Wiggler that chases them off. After being run over by the caterpillar, their prey notices them, and they discover they were going after Luigi. After interrogating them, Luigi discovers of the hat's magical properties.

Meanwhile, Mario is fishing in Soda Lake, but is mocked by the Cheep Cheeps, who are attaching Fish Bones to his hook. Angry, Mario dives in to teach them a lesson, and is attacked by a barrage of Torpedo Teds. While escaping, Mario gets near a Skull Box and one of the hands try to snatch his hat. Mario retaliates and pulls the hand's owner out of the box - a character similar to Mickey Mouse. Mario emerges back to shore and meets up with Luigi, who explains to him everything. Mario is skeptical about this theory and gives Luigi his hat to show him that he is good even without it, but his fireballs die out instantly, and his jumps have drastically worsened. Taking advantage of this, the Koopa Troops jump him, realizing too late that he is hatless. Before they can attack Luigi, he quickly puts his bother's hat on and manages to take down the enemies.

Suddenly, the brothers hear Peach yelling and watch as Yoshi is putting her in the Koopa Clown Car, but when the real Yoshi emerges from the bushes, Bowser drops his disguise, fly over the brothers and chucks Mechakoopas at them (which quickly stop due to not being charged enough). Mario asks Luigi to give him back the hat so to take care of Bowser, but he instead grabs a cape and goes on his own. Bowser pulls a knife out and puts it on Peach's neck, ordering Luigi to surrender Mario's hat to him. After a moment of hesitation, Luigi tosses the hat, which Magikoopa grabs, but Bowser soon notices that there is an "L" on the emblem. Luigi throws Mario's real hat to him, but Bowser quickly swoops in and takes it, but bumps on a cliffside and the hat falls on Peach's head, while her crown falls on his head. Now, powered-up, Peach gives Bowser a Super Punch, sending him flying over some Wigglers, angering them and chasing him off.

Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi return to the camp, where the other dinosaurs have woken up. While speaking of this adventure to a Rex hatter, he inspects Mario's hat and claims that it is just a ordinary hat with no magic powers. Just then Peach's knuckles start to hurt for the punch.

Chapter 2[edit]

Chapter 2

かなアミビーチバレーデスマッチだい作戦さくせん!(Operation Beach Volley Death Match!)

Mario, his friends, and the dinosaurs are enjoying a beach day on Vanilla Tableland. Mario asks Peach to take a dip with him in the lake, but she states that she does not have a swimsuit. Bowser, masked as souvenir shop owner Mototin, offers to sell her one and directs her to the dressing room, in actuality the open mouth of the Koopa Clown Car, and kidnaps her. Mario is given a task: he needs to win at beach volley against his minions: if he wins, Peach will be freed, otherwise, she will be married to Bowser. Two Chargin' Chucks with a beach volley net appears and when Mario and Luigi approach it, some Koopa Paratroopas drops a fence cage around the court, then Bowser drops the ball, a Bob-omb.

During the first set, Mario trips, but Luigi saves it by diving to catch the Bob-omb and Mario is perfectly set up for a dunk, but the Bob-omb opens a parachute, gently gliding towards the Chucks. Mario is outraged by this, but the court starts shaking: Bowser explains that they are currently playing in the first mobile court, and the minions will constantly push the court around the area to change both scenery and hazards. Some Koopa Troopas push the court in the lake. Because of this, the Chucks trips and the Bob-omb approaches the ground, but gets sent over the Mario Brothers' court by a Blargg. As the court descends a river, some Monty Moles jump from the side of the riverbanks and into the cage, but Mario grabs a fire flower and takes care of all of them, but he accidentally burns Luigi too after he sends the Bob-omb over the Chucks.

Luigi is out and taken away by a cloud, but Yoshi quickly comes to replace him. Just then, the court falls down the waterfall and straight into the Soda Lake. The match still continues underwater, and Mario is glad to see that the Bob-omb speed is affected, but is discomforted by the Torpedo Teds. Luckily, the Dolphins comes to missiles away. After some exchanged, the Bob-omb is swallowed by a Porcu-Puffer, which becomes the new ball. Slowly, everyone are starting to need air to breathe, so Yoshi drinks up the entire Soda Lake. With the water pressure gone, the Porcu-Puffer starts to bloat more and more to the point of becoming a balloon, raising the cage up.

Right above the Forest of Illusion, Mario hears the Bob-omb ticking from inside the fish and orders everyone to hide in the sand. The Bob-omb and the Porcu-Puffer explode and the cage lands on the ground. With the ball gone, Mario and the Chucks declare the match a draw. Peach asks what would happen, and Bowser declares that she is still marrying him. Not wanting to be the step-mother of seven kids, Peach grabs a Big Steelie to pound Bowser with, but she loses her balance and falls with the ball on top of the cage. Sliding down, she accidentally rips the flowers off two Wigglers' heads, enraging them. As the Steelie creaks the ceiling, threatening to squash the occupants of the cage, Mario tries to wiggle out a crack, but only his hand squeezes through. Right then, Peach runs past it, followed by the Wigglers, squashing and flattening Mario's hand, giving it more volume. With his big hand, Mario smacks away the Big Steelie, sending it against Bowser, blowing him up with his vehicle.

Back to the Vanilla Tableland lake, Mario is ready to resume the beach activity, but Peach has grown tired of it and goes on a hiking trip with Yoshi, much to Mario's disappointment for not seeing Peach in a swimsuit.

Chapter 3[edit]

Chapter 3

おばけ屋敷やしきはこわいぜだい作戦さくせん!(Operation Scary Ghost House!)

The dinosaurs have put up a Bon Odori on Chocolate Island and, as usual, Bowser is at it again, disguised as a Takoyaki seller and accompanied by Magikoopa. While Yoshi is trying to eat every food stall product, including the stalls themselves, Magikoopa explains his plan: since Peach will surely take part in the Yukata competition, and will certainly win it, they will be giving her a cup attached to Fishin' Lakitu's line. Unfortunately, their bubble bursts in hearing that Peach will not take part in the competition and will instead enjoy the games, such as target shooting a cutout of a red demon with Bowser's face on it, which makes the Koopa King mad and almost blows his cover because of it.

The Yukata competition is about to begin, but Magikoopa quickly disguise himself like Peach and claims that "Peach" will join the competition, and when the real Peach interrogates the lookalike, Magikoopa bluffs by saying that his fake name is "Rīchi" and cannot be blamed if people understood "Peach". Unwillingly, but not nervous because the audience is made out of dinosaurs, Peach takes part in the competition, and even Wendy is in it, but she is not doing well (the entire audience even puked). During the voting, the judges, previously bribed by Wendy with a lot of cotton candy, give her the win and the cup, so Lakitu ends up fishing the wrong girl. At this point, Magikoopa tries another desperate solution: luring Peach to an isolated place by promising her candy and, despite him and Bowser thinking otherwise, she falls for it and gets kidnapped.

Mario and Luigi try to stop them, even calling them out for ruining such beautiful festival, but Bowser reply that this is not the way Obon is celebrated, explaining that it is actually a celebration for the deads. Using spooky tricks, including a Peter Lorre impression, Bowser and Magikoopa lure them to a Ghost House. Influenced by the aura, Luigi runs into the bushes while Mario almost jolts after hearing a growl, only to see that it is Yoshi still devouring stall after stall, then enters the manor. Inside, Mario faces some Boos that are not intimated by his eyes: they claim to be the ghosts of the Koopalings he killed during the adventure, while a Big Boo also claims to be Bowser's ghost.

Mario attempts to flee, but gets cornered. Hearing his cries, Luigi bravely enters the Ghost House to help him, accidentally scaring off the Boos (in actuality the male Koopalings in disguise) because of the big mosquito bites covering his entire face. Only the Big Boo remained, but Mario understands that it is just Bowser on his Koopa Clown Car under a sheet. About to attack, Bowser is stopped by Peach, who whisper in the ear something, but he claims they would need some privacy for that, so Peach gets down the vehicle and directs him to an area where he will be the one cornered, revealing it to be a setup. Bowser ends up falling off a pit, filled with the rest of the cotton candy that the judges could not eat.

Using a balloon, Magikoopa grabs Bowser and flies away, as they promise revenge, but Yoshi (having grown in both size and height with everything that he ate, swallows the two Koopas covered in cotton candy). The festival reprise, all the while Bowser and Magikoopa climb their way out of Yoshi through his nostril.

Chapter 4[edit]

Chapter 4

地獄じごくのアイアンマンレースだい作戦さくせん!(Operation Hellish Ironman Race!)

The dinosaurs have organized an Olympic event in the form of the "Marathon of the Four Islands" to which Yoshi is participating. The announcer Charlie Dorabon reveals that the winner will earn two years worth of Comic BonBon comics and a kiss from Princess Peach, pushing Mario, Luigi, and Bowser to participate, the latter even gives his Clown Car to Peach so that she can easily monitor the race. Mario warns her to not trust it, but Charlie (who is Magikoopa in a Rex disguise) hops in the vehicle with her, promising to take care of her.

The race begins. The Baby Yoshis hops onto Yoshi's back, completely oblivious of his riders as he tries to run as fast as he can. Noticing this, Mario hops on him too, but so does Bowser, and Yoshi is tired out, prompting Mario and Bowser to continue afoot, while Luigi is swarmed by the Baby Yoshis. Mario, Bowser, and Yoshi reach the first checkpoint on Yoshi's Island, a maze that they need to cross after grabbing something first (Mario some berries, Yoshi a fat guy, and Bowser a cute girl). Mario quickly passes, Bowser barely does after bringing Wendy, and Yoshi, having found Mototin in skin and bones, and resort to become himself the fat guy by eating rocks.

Next, on Donut Plains, an obstacle course with an Amazing Flyin' Hammer Brother tossing hammers from above. Due to their masses, Bowser and Yoshi find some difficulties in passing it, but then they join forces and charge through every obstacle, breaking it. Peach tries to aid Mario by tossing him a Super Mushroom and a Cape Feather, but Bowser gets them first, turning into a Super Caped Bowser, but due to his prickly shell, he tears his cape and crashes after attempting to fly. Entering in Vanilla Dome, Bowser and Yoshi realize they are too fat to enter it, so they begin to skip the rope in order to lose weight. Meanwhile, crossing Vanilla Dome has the runners to choose a costume. Mario and Luigi selected a Bowser and Peach costume respectively, tricking the Hammer Brother to not hit them, while Bowser (having picked a Mario costume) gets hammered.

The Forest of Illusion is another maze. While escaping from the Wigglers, Bowser reaches a Star Road, but unfortunately, not one exit leads to either Chocolate Island, the next checkpoint, or Yoshi's Island, where there is the finish line, so he decides to cut his way out of the forest with a Chainsaw. Chocolate Island checkpoint is a food race: Yoshi takes the route with the most sweets to eat, Mario choses the one with less, and Bowser takes any route (later regretting his decision).

One last obstacle: crossing the sea to reach Yoshi's Island and the goal. Bowser throws a rope to Yoshi's Island and attempt to cross it, followed by his heaviest minions, while Mario uses Yoshi's tongue for it. To get rid of the competition, Mario cuts Bowser's rope with a Star, but Bowser is rescued by Magikoopa. Back on his ride, Bowser flies towards the finish line, but his propeller gets jammed by a banner and gets stuck on a palm tree. Luigi and the Baby Yoshi attempts to climb the tree to rescue Peach, who was still on board, but Bowser shakes them down. So Mario tosses Peach a helmet and tells her to wear it, then all the runners start throwing rocks in the Koopa Clown Car. Due to the weight, the tree breaks down. Inside a magic bubble, Bowser and Magikoopa attempt to flee, leaving Peach behind, but the Baby Yoshis pound them with sticks and toss the bubble at sea.

With the two dealt with, the race reprise, but everyone ends up crossing the line at the same time. Peach is baffled that she is now supposed to kiss everyone, but Wendy steps in to "help" her distributing the kisses, prompting the racers to flee in fear.

4-koma[edit]

モトちんのスーパーマリオワールド4コマ天国てんごく (Mototin's Super Mario World 4-koma Paradise)

  • カラーだから① (Because it's colored 1): fascinated by the fact that they are now colorized, Mario invites everyone to pose for the cover of this section, however Bowser is upset because his face got cut out by the frame.
  • ヨッシーのなきこえ (Yoshi's roar): the director is filming a scene for the manga, asking Yoshi to make his iconic roar:「ウイッキー」(Uikkī). When Mario, reading some fan letters, asks him where does this noise originate, a Nintendo representative explains that, actually, Yoshi's roar is supposed to be his name, "Yoshi". Furious, Mario and Yoshi kick the director, because they made Yoshi say the wrong roar for four volumes already.
  • ヨッシーはしっている (Yoshi's smart quip): reading another fan letter, Mario points out that Peach has basically one outfit. Upset, Peach opens her closet, revealing various copy of her dress, explaining that each one is for a different activity: nightwear, swimsuit, bodysuits... Mario and Peach shakes their head in disbelief at the reader's ignorance, Yoshi replies that Mario has one outfit for everything.
  • カラーだから② (Because it's colored 2): thanks to the colorization, Mario and Luigi can finally wear the Fire form outfits. When Peach asks them why are they so excited, the brothers just reply that it was something they wanted to do. Following this example, Peach pulls out a giant paper fan and smacks the two.
  • 古風こふうだなあ (How old-fashioned): Peach is cutting a cake Mario brought, but she messes up the slices and eats the failed ones. Mario arrives, asking if she needs any help. To cover herself, Peach shoos him out, claiming that men do not belong in the kitchen.
  • 対面たいめん〜つ (Meeting): While interviewed on TV, Mario is asked about his first crush. Mario replies that it was Lady from Donkey Kong. To his surprise, Lady enters the stage in her pixelated form, leaving Mario perplexed.
  • カラーだから③ (Because it's colored 3): Mario is getting more and more scared by the ever-changing background color, until he yells at Mototin to stop it. Mototin explains that he was just having fun with the colors.

Mototin's Picture Diary[edit]

モトちんのスーパーファミコン絵日記えにっき V (Mototin's Super Famicom Picture Diary V)

  • Being a mangaka is hard. While living alone is good, between being harassed by the editors and pressed by Nintendo's directions, living alone does not look pleasing anymore.
  • For each volume, Mototin used to put a pen in his head, until an angel came with a solution: a cap with a pen on it, much better than the single pens.
