Chapters[edit]
Chapter 1[edit]
おなつかしのドクターマリオ。でも、なんだかちよっとふけてるぞ!? ("It's the nostalgic Dr. Mario. But he looks a little older, doesn't he?!")
Dr. Mario Nakamatsu, the brilliant scientist behind the Marine Pop and Sky Pop, has just created a new machine, something he calls "terribly dangerous" and that "could alter the course of history for the worse". Hearing that, a shadowy figure breaks inside his lab. Later that day, Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach come to visit Dr. Nakamatsu, finding his lab destroyed and the doctor injured on the floor. The doctor explains that Bowser broke inside his lab and stole a time machine, claiming that he will use it to ruin Mario's childhood. Just then, Luigi and Peach start to act hostile and disgusted towards Mario. When Dr. Nakamatsu asks him to remember, Mario vaguely recalls having maybe done something bad in kindergarten: Bowser is already altering the past. Dr. Nakamatsu gives Mario the prototype of the Time Machine and covinces Luigi and Peach to follow him. He then gives Mario a bag containing seven of his inventions, to use under in case of absolute emergency.
The trio then departs and arrives in Mario's childhood era, watching by various old adventures. Arrived during the time Mario was in kindergarten, the trio witnesses hidden behind a pole the arrival of Bowser. He goes to little Mario and offers to give him a lollypop if he bullies little Peach and little Luigi. Without thinking twice, little Mario punches little Luigi and breaks little Peach's sandcastle then returns to get his reward. Recalling how Bowser punched him in the head during the exchange, Mario interveens. Scared by his apparition, Bowser takes little Peach hostage, threatening to make Peach disappear, then gets the idea of going in an era where Mario does not exist so he can marry her once she grows up, and jumps inside his Time Machine. Chasing him through a time tunnel, the two time machines collide with each other, and they both plummet to the same era, while Mario and Peach fall off their machine.
Luigi lands on his own inside a giant nest with other giant eggs, discovering they have arrived in 144'000'000 B.C., late Jurassic, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. While the nest owner, a Pterodactylus, arrives to check on her eggs, Mario and Peach find themselves lost in the jungle, encountering an hungry Tyrannosaurus Rex. While running away, Mario spots a Yoshi meditating in the valley and jumps with Peach on his back, pleading him to eat the T-Rex. Confused, the Primitive Yoshi looks up and screams in fear seeing the T-Rex approaching, but much to his surprise, he manages to gulp the whole dinosaur in one go, the first time a Yoshi had ever swallowed a prey larger than itself. Happy to have discovered the strength he had been seeking through meditation, Primitive Yoshi invites his new friends to the Yoshi Village, but finds it deserted. Yoshi's younger sister, Yoppī, informs him that a scary beast came and kidnapped all of their friends.
Useless to say that the beast is Bowser: after taming various T-Rex, he kidnapped the Yoshis to make him build a fortress for him and little Peach. Bowser asks her if she would like to marry him. At first little Peach refuses, since she is interested in Mario and Luigi, but Bowser reminds her that little Mario is a bully and Luigi is a weakling. Little Peach light-heartedly agrees with him and declares that, if Bowser manages to complete a palace for them, she will marry him. Mario, Peach, Yoshi, and Yoppī infiltrate the construction site and pull out the first of Dr. Nakamatsu's inventions: the Mole Bombs. The Mole Bombs dig a tunnel under the castle, reach a pocket of magma and cause an eruption that destroys the building. The heroes comes forth, instigating the other Yoshis to stop obeying Bowser, and even Luigi arrives riding the Pterodactylus, who mistook him for her baby (due to the time machine being shaped like a Yoshi's Egg).
Emerging from the rubbles, little Peach reminds Bowser that he needs to finish building their castle or she will not marry him. Furious to have blown his first chance, Bowser unleashes his T-Rexes at the Yoshis, but Primitive Yoshi devours all of them. Bowser retreats, but Mario chases him down with the second invention: the Jumping Shoes. After being kicked in the face by Mario, Bowser takes little Peach and escapes in his Time Machine to another era. Mario fails to catch him in time, but Luigi manages to locate him with their Time Machine's computer: he went to the XVI century, West United States of America. Before the trio can continue the chase, the Yoshis reward them by giving them stone Dragon Coins and the Pterodactylus gifts Luigi some caterpillars as food. much to Peach's disgust.
Chapter 2[edit]
Mario and the others end up in the Wild West era during the cowboy era.
Chapter 3[edit]
クッパをおつてのタイムトラベル。ついに
Chasing Bowser through another time tunnel, Mario jumps on his time machine, but little Peach gives it away his position. In a panic, Bowser drifts and accidentally causes his vehicle to land in Japan, 1687 A.D., the Edo period. The machine crashes into the palace of the fifth Edo shōgun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi. He orders his guards to capture the intruders that dared disrupt his lunchtime. Noticing how the shōgun is identical to Yoshi, Bowser offers him a fruit from Yoshi's Island. Tsunayoshi gladly accepts the tasty gift, and frees him and his "spouse", then he listens to his requests and puts Mario in prison. Before he is led to his cell, little Peach points out he is carrying Dr. Nakamatsu's bags of inventions, so Bowser confiscates it.
In his cell, Mario meets an ill old man similar to him and his daughter similar to Peach: she explains that her father opposed to Tsunayoshi's edict about the exagherated un-mistreatment of animals. The old man then presents himself as inventor Mario Gennai, which Mario recalls being Dr. Nakamatsu's ancestor. After healing him with a mushroom, a guard releases them, as he informs them that the edict changed, so their crimes are nullified: the new edict now protects only turtles, and anyone who harms them, even accidentally, will face severe punishments. Soon enough, Bowser, under the permission of the shōgun, corrupted with many fruits, institutes new rules in favor of turtles, culminating in forcing people to wear turtle shells on their backs, shells that he will sell for a high price. Faced with the possibility of being punished with the ishidaki torture method, people go to buy his shells, making him a rich tycoon. With his booming business, Bowser erects the promised castle and little Peach agrees to marry him, but he must wait for her to reach legal adulthood, but fearing that she might lose interest during the long wait, he devises a plan.
With Mario Gennai unable to invent something useful, Mario mutters that they would need someone like Mito Kōmon to solve the situation. Just then, Mito Kōmon (identical to Yosshīdamusu) and his followers Suke-san and Kaku-san arrive in town, but are squashed by the arrival of the second Time Machine with Luigi and Peach. With the gang back together, and picking up Mito Kōmon's seal, Mario comes up with a plan. Inside Bowser's palacec, Bowser is preparing for the wedding with little Peach, explaining to the shōgun that the age issue will soon not matter, as he can use the 20× Spray from Dr. Nakamatsu's bag to quickly grow his spouse to a legal (and "bouncier") age. Just then, Mario, Luigi, and Mario Gennai, disguised as Mito Kōmon and his followers respectively, barge in to oppose the wedding. Tsunayoshi calls for his guards, but Mario shows Mito's seal, which makes the guards and the shōgun stop. Worried, Bowser uses the growth spray on little Peach, but instead of growing up in age, she grows up in size. Bowser feels scammed by the situation, but then decides to spray himself, but only his head grows bigger, destroying the palace and knocking out the shōgun with falling debris.
Everyone starts laughing at the big-headed Bowser, causing Mario and friends' disguises to fall. Furious, Bowser slowly rolls towards them, while Peach takes back Dr. Nakamatsu's bag, pulling out the fourth invention: the Artificial Plasma Generator, a tuning fork able to generate lightning bolts. Unfortunately, Luigi discovers it needs to be plug in, but Mario Gennai has a solution: a tandem-like exercise bike that can generate energy. Luigi plugs the Generator in and together with Mario and Mario Gennai starts pedaling, generating an electric shock that hits Bowser and little Peach, returning them to their normal size. Peach takes the opportunity to try and drag away her younger self, but she refuses to come along with her, still ingenuely trusting Bowser, and pushes away her adult self. Peach trips and hits her head on a rock, fainting. Seeing this, Bowser catches her and runs away with his Time Machine. Everyone is in shock, most of them little Peach, who is ready to make her ex-fiancé pay for breaking their promise.
Chapter 4[edit]
マリオ、
Luigi tracks Bowser's location to the future, to the Divine Star year 2160. While crossing the time tunnel, with little Peach in their Time Machine, she frustratingly hits the console as she thinks of Bowser leaving her, causing a chip to fall. The chip turns out to be quite important as the Time Machine drifts towards the Space Colony Koopa & Peach, a space colony full of robots. After crashing, thus losing their vehicle, Mario proposes the idea of stealing Bowser's Time Machine for when they will go back to the present. At the Presidential Palace, Peach has woken up, suffering from amnesia, so Bowser briefs her: they are happily married and are parents of two little Koopas. While Peach is starting to believe it, the Robo-Maid informs Bowser of the arrival of some intruders.
Bowser activates the laser defense system of the palace, but Mario uses the fifth invention: the 5× Rice Crackers, which grant for five minutes the quintuple of the average human speed. Dodging the lasers, Mario, Luigi, and little Peach barge in and beat Bowser, but Peach asks them to stop hurting her husband. Hearing that, Mario and Luigi stop, and Bowser reveals he conquered Peach fair and squared and Mario lost, but he will gladly take him in as his lifetime slave. Mario refuses but Luigi gladly accepts, much to his brother's shock, and, while massaging his shoulders, he asks Bowser how did he become the president of the space colony full of robots. Bowser admits that he stumbled on it by accident, and found a computer with a message from his old self: leaving the colony to his younger self, hoping he can transform it into a better town. Mario decides to leave, telling Peach he will enjoy the memories he made with her, but Peach asks in confusion how can he enjoy a couple of minutes, since she claims this to be their first encounter.
Mario understands that Peach is afflicted by amnesia due to her bumping her head on a rock and comes back to fight. Bowser summons his Presidential Bodyguards (which are robot Yoshis). At that moment, an explosion erupts on the top floor of the presidential palace. Bowser goes to check, and finds little Peach running around and destroying important wires with the last seconds of speed she has left, as revenge for Bowser leaving her for an older woman. As she attempts to damage the main computer, the effect of the rice cracker expires, and Bowser snatches her. Due to the explosion, Peach fell and bumped her head again, regaining her lost memories. Using the sixth invention, the Mario Balloon, Mario and Peach float to the top floor, rescue little Peach, kick Bowser off the floor and steal his Time Machine. As they are leaving, Bowser pleads to Peach to not abandon their kids, and while she does not really want to be Bowser's bride, she has moral obligations as a mother, so she decides to remain. Mario is saddened, but does not give up. Mario returns to 1687 A.D., just as Bowser was spraying little Peach and quickly swifts by, so that the Time Machine gets hit by the spray, then he proceeds to make a stop to certain time periods.
Meanwhile, Peach discovers that her supposed kids are actually robots, so Luigi interveens and uses the seventh and last invention to protect him and Peach inside the Egg Barrier. Bowser realizes that he will just need to wait seven minutes before the barrier expires, but just then Mario and the giant Time Machine returns, and with it, Mario also brought a little help: 99 Marios from different eras, ranging from infants to elderly retirees. Bowser tries to fight them off by turning the palace into a robot, but the Marios get the upperhand, rescue Peach and Luigi and immediately board the ship before the main computer, too damaged from the fight, collapses, exploding the entire space colony with it. All of the Marios and little Peach are sent to their original time period, while Mario, Luigi, and Peach make the last stop of their journey: the present, 1992 A.D., a few seconds before Bowser stole the Time Machine. As they arrive, Mario crashes the Time Machine against the original one and the prototype, much to Dr. Nakamatsu's shock. While Mario explains the situation, Bowser leaves, upset he did not get to steal the so-called "dangerous invention that could alter history".
