マリオオープンゴルフキャラクターしょうかい (NES Open Tournament Golf characters introduction)

  • Billy: The muscular pro golfer who participates in this tournament, he is an amazing athlete with a special move, the Hurricane Shot, which can break rocks. He is so big that only his foot can fit in this page.
  • Bowser: Although he doesn't appear in the game, he is a selfish guy who always appears wherever Princess Peach is. Apparently, this persistence was influenced by a certain TV show.
  • Kangaroo-san: It's actually a stuffed toy, with one of Bowser's minions inside.
  • Koala-san: A mother koala with many children, and she has a secret crush on Mario!
  • Luigi: Mario's twin brother who has a complex about his appearance. He seems to be better at golf than Mario, but he does not handle pressure well.
  • Mario: No need for introductions. He is the main character of this manga. He has got a new outfit!
  • Mr. K: He is a mysterious man who holds a golf tournament and pits Mario and his friends against each other.
  • Princess Daisy: The princess of Sarasaland, who appeared in "Super Mario Land". This time, she will be partnering with Luigi. Will love blossom?
  • Princess Peach: The princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, as you know. She has taken off her usual dress and is now wearing a lively miniskirt!
  • Prize money of 1 million yen: The prize money is said to be too little for a golf tournament. Sorry. The manga artist has no idea how much a golfer earns!
  • Tony: He is a professional golfer who thinks like a computer, measuring the wind direction and speed with his bangs and maintaining precise balance. He is gentlemanly, but also pretentious and weird.
  • Wendy: One of the seven Koopalings. This time, she makes a special appearance as a swimsuit girl. Hmm?
  • Yoshi Kart: The Yoshi-shaped car serves as a guide and transportation for the clubs at the golf course, and it actually has Yoshi inside.

Chapter 1[edit]

Chapter 1

ROUNDラウンド 1(ジャパンコース)(Round 1: Japan Course)

Dressed up in miniskirts, Princess Peach and Princess Daisy both head to the Mario Bros.' House with the same goal: inviting Mario to a picnic. Meanwhile, Mario and Luigi, dressed in striped overalls, are repainting their house. Seeing the two bickering princesses in miniskirts, Mario gets so flustered he falls from the ladder, so the princesses run to aid and pamper him. Trying to get the same attention, Luigi feigns falling off the roof, but gets ignored: even worse, when Daisy goes to him, she asks him if he can bring a first aid kit. Upset, Luigi walks away, mumbling that it would have been better if he went to play golf instead of repainting the house. Hearing him, the princesses now diverge their attention to him. While Luigi explains he recently started to play it, the princesses are now eager to go play with them, much to Mario's annoyance for having lost their attention.

The four goes to the newly renovated Golf Club, where Yoshi Kart (who is later revealed to be Yoshi disguised as a Cart Robo) asks them to select one of the course. As the princesses finds Yoshi Kart's appearance cute and the Mario Bros. laugh at it, getting swallowed by Yoshi, he takes them to the first hole of the Japan Course, where they can warm up. Luigi is the first to go, sending his ball flying. When Mario goes up next, he misses the swing and trips. Since it counts as an air shot, Mario's turn ends, while he blames the fact that he has not played golf in a while. Peach is next, and succeeds in hitting the ball. At Daisy's turns, she explains she has not played golf and needs someone to teach her. Mario timidly offers to, but she asks Luigi instead, much to his joy and to his brother's astonishment. Thanks to Luigi's teaching, Daisy swings her ball farther than Peach's, and rewards him with a kiss on the cheek.

Mario is up next, flustered by how Luigi is stealing his spotlight, and even gets upset when Luigi suggest Mario to his the big bulb on the Tee's corner, since he is struggling with the small ball. Mario manages to hit it, but gains a penalty since he struck the ball over the Tee's mark. Having to retry, Mario strikes the ball again, but this time lands OB, then again in the water. Mario ends with seven points on his score, embarrassing himself in front of everybody who have still to make their second swing. Luigi even suggests giving his brother a handicap, but he replies that he does not need it, as he defeated Golf Daiō a while back.

On their next shot, Luigi and the princesses are already on the green, while Mario goes to get his ball from the lake, getting mocked even by Yoshi Kart. He manages to direct the ball towards the Green, but the wind sends the ball in a tree patch in the Rough, even worse, the ball got stuck in a tree cavity. Feeling pity for him, Peach goes to him, and he burst out crying, getting hugged by Peach. Daisy also joins the mocking, calling him a crybaby who wants mommy, angering Mario so much that he direct his anger towards Luigi, swing at the ball (breaking the tree) and sending it towards him. Luigi ducks in time and the ball lands in the near Bunker. As Mario rejoice, and Luigi laughs for landing the ball in the Bunker, Peach asks Daisy if she pretend to be mean to Mario to help him hit the ball in the right direction, but she replies that she was not pretending: she has given up on hitting on Mario, and now has only eyes for Luigi, leaving Peach speechless.

On the next shot, the princesses hit their ball in the hole, scoring a Birdie. During Luigi's turn, he misses the hole by a whisker, and it even goes out of the Green. After a while, Luigi manages to go in the hole, totaling in 11 strokes, two more than Mario. With a chance of winning, Mario is now ready to make a chip-in and win against his brother, when he notices that his ball landed and got stuck on a rocky surface in the Bunker. Clearing the sand around, he discovers that is a massive boulder. Luigi claims he can reposition the ball if he is ok with a penalty, but Mario decides to swing at the boulder, lobbing it to the Green. Because of the impact, the boulder crumbles and the ball lands straight in the hole. This way Mario, wins against Luigi by a point, while Peach tries also to best her rival by claiming she was paired with Mario, so Daisy and Luigi both lost to them.

While the group bickers, two figures watch them from afar, claiming that soon they will show them how real golf is played.

Chapter 2[edit]

Chapter 2

ROUNDラウンド 2(オーストラリアコース、フランスコース)(Round 2: Australia and France Courses)

While Peach and Daisy are deciding which course to do next, getting disappointed in knowing that the France and the Australia courses do not actually have art pieces or kangaroos, a strange smiling man approaches the group. He presents himself as Mr. K, the host of a golf tournament which its prize money amounts to one hundred million yen. The group immediately agrees to join, while the two figures from before also join the tournament, presenting themselves to the others: the (literal) giant Billy and the wealthy and precise Tony, two famous golf champions. While Tony tries to flirt with the ladies (and fails), Mr. K shows the matches: Luigi, Daisy, and Billy will compete in the France Course (which is, much to Daisy's joy, actually filled with famous art pieces), while Mario, Peach, and Tony will do the same in the Australia Course (which is actually filled with Australian animals, much to Peach's joy). The winners will then face off in the Hawaii Course for one last match. Also, a rule is applied: whoever goes OB is instantly disqualified.

While Tony still tries to hit on Peach, she asks Mr. K how is she supposed to play if the Fairway is full of kangaroos. Mr. K yells at them to "make way for the lady" and they immediately clear the area, letting Peach strike the ball near a tree. Tony's turn is next and, precisely calculating the wind's direction and speed just using his bangs, manages to send the ball right by the tree. Mario's turn is next and, with the Kangaroos back on the Fairway, he tries to make them clear the course by disguising as a girl. The animals are not fooled by it and beat him up, but do leave. Hurt and dizzy, Mario accidentally hits the ball, which rolls for a short distance.

Mario thinks that, in order to catch up, he needs to go over the tree, but a koala climbs onto his shoulder and yells in his ear to not even try that. She then calmly explains that her kids are sleeping in that tree and she does not want them to be disturbed. Mario reassures her that he will find another way, while the koala has grown fond of him, clinging to his head, much to Mario's annoyance. Wanting the koala to hug her too, Peach tries to wave her club near the tree, but accidentally hits a beehive and gets chased by the Bunbun inside it. Peach ducks to avoid their spears, which hit Tony's face. While Tony forgives Peach for this accident, he sadly informs her that, as she was waving her club to attract the koala and while running from the bees, she technically made 16 air shots, and seeing as this is a Par 4 hole, the strokes limit is 12, so she is disqualified. Mario tries to console her that she will win for her too, as soon as the clingy koala will let him swing properly.

Meanwhile, in the France Course, Daisy keeps wasting time by painting the scenery. Fed up, Luigi complains this to her, but she retorts that she saw him ogling at the Venus de Milo at the start. Billy loudly comments how Daisy is a "brat" and he would have loved to race with the "way cuter" Peach. Both angry for the offense to Daisy, she and Luigi swings a ball each against him, putting them straight in Billy's nostrils. This causes Billy to fall on his butt, causing the ground to shake so hard that, in the Australia Course, as Mario finally manages to swing (while the koala is still on his back), accidentally sends his ball in a dead bush dangerously hanging on the other side of a gorge, just saving him from a OB but making it impossible to retrieve it. Furious, Billy gets himself up and changes up his special shot, the Hurricane Shot. Knowing full well that move, Luigi orders Daisy to run away, while he catches the full blow of a hurricane straight in the face. The hurricane is felt even in the Australia Course, with the strong wind sending Tony right in the lake: with his hair wet, he cannot longer precisely feel the wind, so he forfeits. Peach asks Mr. K what would happen then, and he replies that if Mario cannot hit the ball, then all of them are disqualified and the winner of the France Course will get the price.

Right then, the koala decides to help Mario, by waking up her babies and forming with them a bridge to the dead bush. Thanks to this, Mario reaches the other side of the gorge, hits the ball and sends it straight in the hole, winning the Australia Course. While shocked, Mr. K compliments Mario for the victory, while Billy, carrying an unconscious Luigi and followed by a bruised up Daisy arrives from the France Course, gloating that he has already won if Mario is his adversary.

Chapter 3[edit]

Chapter 3

ROUNDラウンド 3(ハワイコース)(Round 3: Hawaii Course)

As Mario observes in horror how Billy reduced his brother and the entire France Course, Mr. K invites everyone to follow him to the Hawaii Course. He explains that the OB rule is still applied and, that in the first hole, an actual beach full of sunbathing Rexs, hitting them will also result in a OB, but that Billy and Mario will play on three holes. Billy tries to flirt with Peach by flexing his muscles, much to Mario's annoyance. Mario swings the ball optimally, but gets shocked when Billy goes even further by simply flicking the ball with his finger. After messing up Mario's next shot by exhaling from his nose and raising the sand of the beach, Billy gets yelled by Peach, but he proceeds to flex his muscles at her once more. Tony reprehends his friend to take the match seriously, only for him to flirt with Peach by promising a golden necklace if she goes out with him. Angry, Billy bickers with Tony, while Mr. K mumbles that they have no hope to date the princess, making her question how is he aware of her royal status, despite the modest dress and the absence of her crown. Mario manages to get a Birdie. As Billy exhales from the nose in annoyance, he sends his ball against one of the sunbathers, Wendy, who furiously crushes his foot with a Ball 'N' Chain. To add insult to (literal) injury, the ball falls in the sea. Billy fails the first hole and Mario wins it.

In the next hole, a deserted course with just a bunch of palm trees, Mario is the first to go, but his ball bounces against the trees, even hitting some coconuts that fall on Yoshi Kart, Luigi, and Daisy. When his turn comes up, Billy starts charging a swing, pumping his biceps, and he shows off his special skill: the Hurricane Shot. When he hits the ball, he summons a tornado which brings the ball straight to the hole. Billy wins the second hole. Mario is terrified by such power, and is even more scared in seeing that the third and last hole is a giant water hazard, with small islets in which to land the ball and reach the hole located in a small cave.

At first, Mario notices that the course's layout makes it impossible for someone of Billy's stature to play on it, but he proves him wrong by putting his feet onto two nearby rocks and swinging the ball so hard that creates a vacuum that breaks the cave's ceiling, all the while landing on the Green. Mario is petrified, realizing that not even his super shot can arrive there, commenting how he would love for Yoshi to help him right now. Hearing that, Yoshi Kart passes him a Super Kinoko Matsutake Version to grow into Super Mario. Using a palm tree as a club, Mario executes a Typhoon Shot and summons a tornado towards the ball. Billy tries to stop it with a Reverse Hurricane Shot, by also jumping in his tornado to power it by swinging his arms. This leads to him contracting his bicep so much that a muscle tears and he faints from the pain. Both tornados stop, one of the balls breaks into pieces, and the second one lands in the hole. The referee goes to check: it is Mario's ball, which means he won with a Hole-in-one.

While Tony compliments to Mario for the victory and the princesses celebrates, Mr. K informs them that the tournament is not over yet, showing that, in tiny writing, the winner of the Hawaii Course will face him at the UK Course. Mario is outraged, but accepts.

Chapter 4[edit]

Chapter 4

ROUNDラウンド 4(UKウルトラクッパコース)(Round 4: Ultra Koopa Course)

Still outraged by this, Mario comments how Mr. K is as dirty as Bowser. Right then, Mr. K drops his disguise, revealing to actually be Bowser. While Yoshi Kart carries Billy to the hospital, Bowser takes everyone to the UK Course, which is not short for "United Kingdom", but for "Ultra Koopa", and the course is a miniature of the Valley of Bowser. Two new rules are set: the winner is whoever puts his ball in the hole first, regardless of the number of strokes or OB; secondly, instead of normal balls, two big balls will be used, one containing Luigi and the other one a Goomba, with their head popping out. Beside hurting the guy in the ball, the ball is so big that it bends every club the two participants use.

After going through a lot of pain traversing a barb-wired area, and the narrow cave entrance, Mario and Luigi are attacked by the kangaroos of the Australia Course, which are revealed to be Confused Chucks and a Sumo Brother in disguise. They start impeeding Mario's path by tossing baseballs and, with a well-timed shaky stomp, the Sumo Brother makes the Mario and his golf clubs fall in a Bunker filled with quicksand and that also drains the life energy of whomever falls in. Tony, under the request of the girls, saves him, and Mario is all dry and weak and also clubless. Tony offers to lend his expensive clubs (if Peach is willing to go out with him), but Mario must first be cured, but they will need some power-ups, which are no where nearby. Daisy pulls out from under her dress a Cape Feather, a Fire Flower, and a 1-Up Mushroom and gives them to Mario, who heals up back in shape. Peach asks why does she have power-ups that do not grow in Sarasaland with her, and Daisy replies that she originally thought of bringing them back to her country and cultivate those there to convince Mario to move to her kingdom. Using his cape, Mario pushes Luigi-ball towards the hole at Bowser's Castle.

Meanwhile, Bowser is resorting to use a pipe as his clubs are all damaged, and crosses the drawbridge. When Mario arrives, a Thwomp blocks his way. Daisy attempts to lure it away by using her "sexy moves" and a hula girl outfit, but it does not work, so Peach resort to make the Thwomp laugh with childish tricks. She succeeds and the Thwomp falls from laughter in the moat. Bowser raises the drawbrige, leaving Mario and Luigi outside. Meanwhile, at the Mushroom Kingdom Hospital, after resting Billy on a bed, Yoshi removed his Kart disguise and is watching the match from the window. Billy wakes up and, after discovering that Peach bandaged his arm, he decides to help Mario by making another Hurricane Shot. His tornado goes to the UK Course and rises Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and the Goomba over the Green. Mario and Bowser hits their respective balls towards the hole and Luigi manages to bump the Goomba away and lands in the hole.

Mario has won, and the princesses demand Bowser to give up the prize money. Bowser accepts, but while giving the giant check, he removes the post-it with the word "million" written on it and gives Mario the actual prize: 100 yen. Bowser flees, while Tony tries one last time to invite Peach over for dinner, while flaunting his wealth. A Toad arrives, and gives Peach the crown she left at the castle. Tony discovers that Peach is a princess and realize he is out of her league, so he tries to invite Daisy out, but Tatanga (now working as Daisy's valet) arrives with her crown and the same reaction ensues.

Peach and Daisy departs to their home, the former waves goodbye to Mario, while the latter waves it to Luigi, much to his tearful joy.

Mototin's Picture Diary[edit]

モトちんのゴルフ絵日記えにっき (Mototin's Golf Picture Diary)

  • Despite liking golf, Mototin never had the chance to play it, however, in his early years, he and his friend used to live near a golf club and helped the players by being their ball boy. He still keeps one of the ball as a precious memory.
  • In the forest nearby the golf club, there were a lot of indecent photos attached to the trees. Being too innocent, Mototin and his friend detached them and buried it, getting reprehended by the wood cutter, who used the photos to "relieve" his tiredness from the hard work, also claiming that it is a crime what they did. Despite young Mototin knowing full well it was not, adult Motitin now see the values of those photo, mentally promising the wood cutter that he would now treasure them.
