Chapter 1[edit]

Chapter 1

無謀むぼう展開てんかい Pピー1ワン武闘ぶとうかいまき!! ("A reckless turn of events! The P1 Martial Arts Tournament!")

Following the events of the last volume, King K. Rool was sealed inside a steel keg by the combined forces of Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, and Mario, and was thrown into the sea. However, Mario is still waiting for Funky Kong to repair his Jumbo Barrel and fly him back home. His homesickness even grows bigger seeing DK and Candy Kong flirting day after day. Cranky Kong tries to help Mario by offering various activities to do, but none of them interest Mario. Tired, Cranky passes him his puzzle magazine, which includes a picross section. Finally, Mario has found a passtime that calmed him down, and he is also incredibly good at him. Meanwhile, the keg bobs towards the Mushroom Kingdom, where Princess Peach has nearly forgotten about Mario because of the long time that has passed since she last saw him. Just then, the Toads bring the steel keg to the castle and Peach opens it, causing King K. Rool to be freed.

Back on Donkey Kong Island, Mario senses that something has happened to Peach. Just then a horrible music starts playing. Mario and the Kong family follow the noise until they reach a wall with a giant picross engraved on it. Mario quickly solves it, revealing the symbol of the Kremling Krew. The symbol disappears, allowing the group to enter inside the wall, where King K. Rool and his Kremling goons are waiting, welcoming the Kong to "their home". The ceilings above them open, revealing the area to a Kremling temple in ruins. K. Rool then explains how the Kremlings used to live on Donkey Kong Island as the rightful rulers, until they decided to be a pirate community and sail the sea, leaving the island to be dominated by the Kongs, and now he is there to claim it back. Cranky is willing to let the Kremlings co-habit with the Kongs, but K. Rool refuses: one of them must go: they will now fight to the death inside the temple ruins. Just then, Peach taps on K. Rool's shoulder, telling him that they should go to a violent battle, but a sporty match-up, without bitings nor illegal actions. K. Rool obliges to the request, as a way to repay her for freeing her, but asks her how did she and the Toads followed him: Peach explains that they did not close off the black drum that warped K. Rool to Donkey Kong Island.

Cranky accepts and makes the team: for the Kremling team the members are Klump, Kritter, Krusha, Manky Kong, and King K. Rool; while for Kong team the members Funky Kong, Candy Kong, Diddy Kong, Mario, and Donkey Kong. With Peach as the announcer and a Toad as the judge, the "P1 (Peach No.1) Martial Arts Tournament" begins. First off is Funky Kong vs. Klump. As they begin, Funky asks Klump if his name comes from CLAMP, as he cosplays as Hikaru Shidou from Magic Knight Rayearth. Disgusted, Klump responds that it derives from the tool while crushing him in a giant clamp. For using a sort of weapon, Klump is disqualified, and the Kong team gets the first point.

Funky's next opponent is a Kritter. This time, the reptile points out how Funky Kong must be a shy person, if he wears sunglasses and swimming trunks, despite his friends being pantless. In a switf action, Kritter pulls down Funky's trunks and leaves in embarassment (despite nobody being actually flustered by the situation, as Peach and Candy explain to one another that they are used to DK being butt-naked), thus losing the match. Kritter wins the round, and his next opponent is Candy. Candy has no fighting experience however, but Cranky tells her to rely on her sex appeal to win the battle, like it usually happens in such manga, but she is sent flying out of the arena by the unphazed Kritter. Expresso catches her, while the him and the Animal Friends arrive to support the Kongs.

Now Team Kong is down to its last three members (Diddy, Mario, and DK), while Team Kremling has four (Kritter, Krusha, Manky, and K. Rool), and is leading 2 - 1.

Chapter 2[edit]

Chapter 2

いかりのドンキー スーパーバトル!! ("Angry DK! Super Battle!")

With the Kremlings leading 2 - 1 against the Kong, it is now Diddy Kong's turn to face Kritter. Thanks to his agility and Cartwheel Attack, he manages to kick Kritter to the face, but the reptile catches him by his tail and swings him against DK. Knocked out, Diddy becomes the third victim of Kritter. Furious, DK decides to go next instead of Mario, but he is recomanded to wear boxing gloves so to not accidentally kill anyone. In one punch, Kritter is sent flying against the drink vendor in the stands.

Next up for the Kremlings is Krusha, who is scared to go against DK. To boost his morale, K. Rool gifts him a paper bag mask with Kenshiro's face painted over. Confident in his "beautiful macho face", Krusha jumps into the ring and manages to parry all of DK's punches, even knocking him down with a barrage of hits. DK manages to get back on his feet before Judge Kinopio calls a TKO, but this time Krusha shoves him out of the arena, which is surrounded by a moat of Spike Traps. Extending his arms and legs, DK successfully prevents himself from falling into the spikes by pressing against the walls of the moat. Manky Kong walks towards him and starts making silly faces to make him lose the grip and make him slip.

Just then, a sudden downpour causes the moat to fill with water, allowing DK to swim back up unharmed. Not only that, but the painted face of Kenshiro melts. Discouraged by the loss of his beautiful macho face, Krush is knocked out with a belly bump by DK, who puffed up like a sponge due to the water he swallowed. Just then, the rain stops. As Peach correctly presumes, the rain was artificial, a result of a lab accident: from the top of DK Island, from the remains of his blown up lab, Dr. Mario yells "sorry, my bad." Now both teams are 3 - 3, with two remaining opponents each.

Chapter 3[edit]

Chapter 3

速攻そつこうマリオ 恐怖きようふ一撃いちげき!! ("Mario's quick attack! One-hit terror!")

As the two teams glare at each other, DK butts his head with Manky Kong's, while Mario faces off against K. Rool. The latter two begin exchanging insults, with Mario specifically targeting K. Rool's belly button. After witnessing Mario being a bully, Peach leaves the ruins in disgust, which saddens Mario, but he uses it to fuel his spite towards the enemy. As Judge Kinopio tries to get the situation under control before starting the match against DK and Manky Kong, the drink vendor strikes the gong and the fight begins. DK charges at Manky, but he kicks him in the belly. This causes DK to spit out the large amount of water he swallowed before against the rival, returning to his usual shape. Wet and humiliated, Manky asks K. Rool to use "that thing." Before DK or anybody else can make sense of his words, DK is hit by a flurry of super fast shots, of which Manky takes credit for.

While DK tries to pull himself up from a German supplex, K. Rool gloats that he already won. Mario claims that he has yet to enter the fight, but K. Rool states that, because of the uninformed switch up between DK and Mario's turns, he is technically disqualified. Angry Mario bites hard into K. Rool's belly button. In pain, K. Rool calls for the Rock Krocs to get rid of the biter, and Mario is hit by the same swift hits that DK took before. Mario then asks the Lakitu cameraman to check the replay: through a slo-mo it is in fact revealed that camouflaged Rock Krocs were using super speed, powered by some pills made by Dr. Mario under duress, to hit DK and Mario without being noticed.

As the Rock Krocs charge at Team Kong, they start to slow down and age quickly. Dr. Mario explains that this might be a side effect, which speeds up not only their movement but also their aging. With the Rock Krocs neutralized, DK is prepared to take down Manky Kong, so he pulls out his last resort: a banana-nunchaku (which he passes off as snacks and not weapons). While showing off his nunchaku skills, Manky drops the bananas, leaving him unharmed. DK steps towards him, but ends up slipping on the bananas and falls to the ground and this time he is out.

Mario remains the last member of Team Kong, but he promises to finish Manky Kong in under a minute to quickly deal with "King Belly Button". After bouncing off K. Rool's belly button, Mario sticks his fists into Manky Kong's nostrils, then uses his legs to keep his mouth shut. Unable to breathe, Manky Kong loses consciousness and is knocked out. Mario goes to the final round, against K. Rool, which is being called by everyone with the nickname "King Belly Button". Offended, K. Rool presses a button, and the arena floor turns into a Picross puzzle (of Mario's face) which completes itself and causes everyone standing on it to fall beneath it.

Chapter 4[edit]

Chapter 4

意外いがい結末けつまつ ピクロス対決たいけつ!! ("An unexpected ending! Picross showdown!")

Both teams and the judge down the arena, K. Rool approaches Mario and proceeds to beat him like a punching bag after two Klap Traps restrain his feet. With DK unable to help him, or will risk to earn a foul for his team, Mario lies down on his back, preventing K. Rool from reaching him due to his big belly, but he has come prepared: the Klap Traps spread his legs and then a Gnawty on a Millstone pops out from the wall, landing on Mario's crotch. Unable to withstand the pain, Mario faints: it is a TKO. Shocked, Judge Kinopio is forced to declare K. Rool and Team Kremling the winner of the P-1 Martial Arts Tournament.

As K. Rool shows off the champion's belt and declares on live TV that Donkey Kong Island will be renamed "K. Rool Island", DK points out something: K. Rool used a weapon and used biting against the opponent, the two prohibited things by the rule, and not only that, but the judge never actually ringed the gong to start the match. Lastly, Mario appears alive and well above the arena: thanks to a ninja substitution technique, he swapped places with the drink vendor (Luigi). While the audience demands a fair rematch, K. Rool states that he already obtained the champions belt and gave his victory speech, but Mario claims that he cannot expect to lie and cheat on TV and expect to be accepted as the new island's ruler. Peach, who returned to the ruins by the end of the last chapter, congratulates Mario for not forgetting his heroic values and gives him a kiss on the cheek. With newfound strength, as the match properly starts, Mario jumps on K. Rool and easily beats him up.

Barely standing, K. Rool activates one last surprise: a wall collapses, revealing a Mine Cart, that he and his teammates jump onto to escape Mario. Without another cart for Mario and Kongs to chase them, Peach pulls out her own pretty cart to go after Team Kremling. Guided by Squawks' light, Team Kong reaches Team Kremling on a mine cart system which takes them in the depts of the island, where they come across an old, caped Kremling. K. Rool identifies him as Cranky K. Rool, an ancestor who disappeared following a humiliating defeat at Picross against the Kongs 500 years ago. He proposes to settle their feud with one last Picross match: if the Kongs lose, they will have to spend 500 years underground, as these were the conditions that he and the Kongs' ancestor agreed on.

He then takes the two teams and their carts on top of the island's mountain, summoning two sets of tracks that lead to the wall of the ruins. On the wall at the end of each set of tracks, the same picross puzzle: if they figure out the solution, they will pass through and win the match. The two carts go. The two teams manage to figure out that the solution is a crocodile with a crown, but while K. Rool exclaims that it must be B-Gon, BomBom's mascot, Cranky Kong correctly guesses that it is actually Cranky K. Rool in his youth. Thus, Team Kong passes through, while Team Kremling crashes into the wall and the champion's belt fly into Cranky Kong's hands, who explains that, if Cranky K. Rool made the puzzle 500 years ago, he could have not based on a character that did not even exist yet.

Donkey Kong Island remains property of the Kongs, while Cranky K. Rool returns to his cave for another 500 years. While the Kongs, Mario, Peach, and the Toads celebrate, Luigi and his squashed crotch are tended to by Monchee and one of Daisy's clones, who came after witnessing his massacre on TV.

4koma cover

本山一城もとちん夢屋ゆめやっ(うそ)ゆったん いがいが おやぶん のページ ("Mototin, Yumeya (lie) Yuttan, Igaiga, Oyabun's pages")

The following is a 4-koma chapter in which Kazuki Motoyama and three chosen fans make a page each. The last page is made with the last pieces of fanarts.

Mototin's page
  • ちょうアニキ ("Super Bro"): Diddy looks up to DK like a big brother, and also wishes to become stronger like him. Seeing a 40-bai Capsule on the ground, Diddy takes it and becomes taller and more buffed. However, by doing so, he has now become bigger than DK, and even he starts calling him "big bro", much to Diddy's disappointment, who never wanted to replace him.
  • ピーチひめ野望やぼう ("Princess Peach's Ambition"): during the competition, Judge Kinopio interviews Peach about her presence in an adaptation of a game in which she does not even appear in. She explains that she aims to spread her message for world peace. As DK is fighting K. Rool, Toad makes some calculations, claiming that they could make 50 handbags out of K. Rool's skin. Hearing that, Peach starts rooting for DK, yelling at him to kill him.
Yuttan's page
  • ぼくらのキノピオさん ("Our Toad"): alone and on his own, Toad starts doing ballet moves. Suddenly, Kinoppe enters the scene, watching his moves in confusion and leaving Toad embarrassed.
  • なぞかけ ("Riddle"): a monkey poses a riddle: which animal could have the key to the entire zoo? The solution is revealed to be a "monkey" as the word「門のキー」(mon no kī, "gate key") is similar to「モンキー」(monkī, "monkey"). The last panel depicts the monkey being beaten up and stabbed with a knife for the atrocious pun.
Oyabun's page
  • 実は王様ってセンスなかったのね ("Actually, the king has no taste"):
    • The Mushroom King got a present for Peach: a dress she finds hideous. He asks her to wear it at the party he is organizing. To not endure an embarrassing moment, Peach comes up with the idea of "accidentally" ruining it before that. She initially plans to wear the dress and tear it while in Balloon form, but the dress turns out to be stretchy and resistant to tearing.
    • With the party approaching, Peach finds a way to dispose of the dress. When Peach is interrogated on the disappearance of the dress, she feigns ignorance: in actuality, she sent it at Bowser's Castle to Wendy, which she gladly takes it, beliving it to be a present from Mario.
Igaiga's page
  • いっしょうけんめい照らします♡ ("I'll shine my light with all my might ♡"): while in Torchlight Trouble, Donkey Kong and Diddy ask Squawks to make some light. The parrot obeys, shining his lantern straight towards the two. As they try to move away, Squawks keeps shining his light in their face, to the point of angering the Kongs, who yell at him to illuminate the path, not their eyes.
Page made by other
  • もどってやるぜ ("I'll go back"): after Mario gets over a Jumping Piranha Plant, the enemy is now left wondering what to do now, since Mario will clearly not come back.
  • まあい一発!("One more shot"): Luigi accidentally cuts off his left mustache, just as he has to get ready for a date with Miss Goom. Mario reassures him that he just needs to focus and exert force into his face. Luigi follows his instructions, and miraculously, the missing part of his mustache grows back.

  • Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star): to make Krusha more confident in battle, K. Rool gives him a paper bag mask of Kenshiro.
  • Kikaider (Mechanical Violator Hakaider): Dr. Mario states that K. Rool threatened him to turn him to put is brain in a Kikaider-like machine if he refused to make the Rock Krocs super fast.
