Chapter 1[edit]
スーパースコープ
In the labs of Bowser's Castle, Bowser has kidnapped Dr. Mario Nakamatsu and his granddaughter Kinoppe, and is forcing him to create various mecha and robot suits for him and his kids, so that they can take over Jewelry Land. After he begrudgingly obeys, in matter of hours the Koopas take over the Land and transform King Fret's into a teapot and Prince Pine's into a pineapple. With the theft of the kingdom's magic gems, the delicate balance of the magical magnetic field supported by this stone is shattered between the Light Realm and the Dark Realm. When King Fret tries to warn them, Wendy levitates his castle into the air. Meanwhile, in the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario and Yoshi are enjoying life and their solid friendship, when Princess Peach, carryed on Luigi's back due to a sprained ankle, arrives. She shows them on TV what Bowser is doing on Jewelry Land, and explains she is worried for her friend Pine. Immediately, Mario and Yoshi depart for Jewelry Land, but on their way, both Yoshi and the the Blue Koopa Troopa he is munching on to fly, ask Mario if he should be worried about having to compete with Pine for a special place in Peach's heart, to which Mario dodges the question.
Back in Jewelry Land, Bowser is now asking the doctor for a machine that forces Peach to fall in love with him. He refuses, but Bowser threatens to turn Kinoppe into a Chawanmushi. Left to his own devices, the doctor swiftly concocts a creation and designs a Mecha Patakuri to deliver it to Mario. Unfortunately, the Koopas see the robot flying away and Wendy manages to hit it, and the Mecha Patakuri crashlands. While Bowser now escalates his threats to the doctor for this stunt, Mario and Yoshi comes across the damaged Mecha Patakuri and inspect it. Through the screen on his belly, the robot shows a prerecorded video message of the doctor: he explains his situation and adds that he made sure each mecha suit had a weak point and is entrusting Mario with a weapon: the Super Scope. However, the Super Scope is not with the robot: another video captured by the robot's black box shows a woman inspecting the robot and picking the weapon. The woman appears behind them: her name is Bertha and she owns the land the robot fell into, so she claimed the Super Scope for herself. She is willing to give it back, if Yoshi can beat her own pet, which is revealed to be the Yoshi from the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie, but if he lose, he will become her new pet. Yoshi loses aginst movie-Yoshi, but Bertha is willing to give Mario a second chance: recently, her fields are infested by Molians, if Mario can kill more than her, she will give him the Super Scope, otherwise, he will have to marry her. Despite giving his best, Mario loses the challenge by 20 to 21. Bertha gives him a very passionate smooch, but when inspecting Mario's Molians, she notices he killed two red Molians, which are worth double the points, so he is the real winner. Mario obtains the Super Scope and movie-Yoshi becomes friends with Yoshi, forfeiting his victory and letting him go with Mario.
While traversing the Grass Land, Mario comes face to face with Lemmy driving his mecha shaped like his face, who was looking for the Mecha Patakuri. Mario mocks his vechile, so Lemmy fires at him. While Yoshi is the one getting hit by the projectiles, Mario uses to Super Scope to locate the weak point, locking it on the face. With one shot, Mario destroys the mecha and Lemmy is sent flying, while he drops one of the magic gems. With Lemmy landing straight into his father's base, Bowser immediately discovers of Mario and prepares his troops.
Chapter 2[edit]
デンジャラスラブの
While traversing Mushroom Land, Mario and Yoshi are attacked by Ludwig and his dinosaur-like mecha. Like before, Yoshi gets hit by the Koopaling's projectiles, and Mario's too, until they find the mecha's weak spot on the back. Mario manages to shoot down the mecha, but the head part fuses with the limbs. Ludwig uses his detachable hands to punch the two, who retreat to Pipe Island. Ludwig chases them down, but Mario manages to lose their tracks, by hiding behind a barricade. Before continuing, Yoshi reveals that his feet are full of blisters and his boots are consumed. Mario intends on leaving him behind, but Yoshi is stunned by how easily he is abandoning his best friend behind, so Mario carries him on his back. As Ludwig reaches the ambush zone set by Wendy, he soon discovers that he has arrived before Mario. Wendy has already sent her troops to catch them, but get confused when checking the due on the wanted posters, where the ride and rider are inverted, so Mario and Yoshi arrive to the ambush zone unharmed.
Ludwig and Wendy uses their magic and transform themselves into Dr. Mario and Kinoppe. Mario and Yoshi fall for the trick, and while the latter has the "doctor" ficing his shoes, "Kinoppe" approaches Mario and asks him why is she doing this quest. Mario explains Peach asked him to, and after backhanded comment about Peach treating him like a servant, she asks him what would happened if Peach asked him to marry Wendy. Mario does not hesitate and not only answers that he would not oblige, but also that no way he will love a ugly evil creature like her. To this, Wendy drops her disguise, grabs her shild and sword and starts flaing it at Mario. Meanwhile, the doctor finishes to fix and reinforce Yoshi's shoes, but whilst applying them to him, he also ties a ball and chain to Yoshi's ankle, before dropping his disguise. Ludwig commands the anvils to take flight and assist Wendy.
Mario runs to the Super Scope and uses it to blast Wendy's swords, but as he prepares another shot, the anvils drops some horseshoes on his head, and one pins his legs to the ground. Seeing this, Wendy prepares a bomb to blow him up, but Mario shoots the anvils and they fall straight on her head, leaving her dizzy enough for the bomb to explode on her instead. Just then Ludwig arrives with his mecha and launches another pair of fist-missiles, but Yoshi, still carrying the heavy ball and chain takes the blow of the missiles and rolls against Mario. This proves to be a blessing in disguise as both the retraining horseshoe and the ball and chain snap, freeing the two, and letting them jump over Ludwig to shoot down the glass dome, destroying the mecha and retrieving two magic gems. Mario dedicates the double victory to Peach, unaware that she is having fun at the disco with Luigi and the Toads.
Chapter 3[edit]
シーサイドトラップをやぶれの
Larry arrives to Wendy's ambush area and finds his siblings injured. Before passing out, Ludwig tells him he prepared eight swords for his mech. Next stop, is Grand Bridge, where Mario and Yoshi are ambushed by Iggy and his Bloober mech, but Mario takes quickly care of it by shooting it at its tentacles. The various parts fall into the sea, and immediately after, a Bloober baby emerges with a bump on his head. The mother Bloober yells at Mario and Yoshi for injuring her son, and consoles him, telling him he will survive if "someone" goes to Crescent Coast to retrieve the elixir from the Takotsubo. Having got the message, Mario and Yoshi offer to retrieve it and direct themselves to Crescent Coast, unaware that the Bloober baby is alright and it was all a ploy prepared by Larry.
On Crescent Coast, full of bathers, Yoshi spots Peach, but when he attempts to tell it to Mario, he interrupts him by telling him to not get distracted by the girls in bikini. Mario asks information to a beach house owner (who is Larry in disguise) that directs them to someone that knows the location of the Takotsubo, not before guilty-tripping him to buy all his snacks. As they traverse the beach carrying boxes of sweets, Luigi spots them, but when he points them out to Peach, she claims that Mario would be too busy freeing Jewelry Land to carry all those boxes. The two of them, and Toad, came to help the two, but while Toad is looking for them, Luigi and Peach take advantage of the location to enjoy the beach. Whil walking towards the group of parents that knows where to find the Takotsubo, Mario and Yoshi are harassed by their children, composed by young Flying Goombas, Koopa Para Troopas and Nipper Plants. Mario is willing to give them the candies, but when they almost snack their magic gems, Mario scolds them, to which they insult Mario and Yoshi, to which they respond by firing the Super Scope. The parents appear, upset, but direct them to their location. As Mario and Yoshi dive into the sea, the children and the parents are revealed to be disguised actors as well.
Mario and Yoshi find the Takotsubo, but the pot comes to life and unleashes a swarm of Tako against them. The octopodes latch onto Mario, while Yoshi swims away, disgusted by the cephalopods. Larry also emerges with his mech from the pot and reveals his master plan: lured into the sea by his actors, Larry is now safe from the Super Scope, since it cannot be lit underwater. As Larry pins Mario down with the eight swords that were attached on his robot, Yoshi emerges to the surface, and distracted by the apparition of Peach and Luigi, which he believes to be hallucinations, he bumps into a takoyaki stand and accidentally gulps one. Delighted by the taste, and realizing of having abandoned his best friend to such delicious enemies, Yoshi dives back into the sea, grabs the now-inanimate pot and covers Mario with it, while he devours the Tako. Using a Power Balloon, Mario removes the water from inside the pot, and using Yoshi's knocking as an indication, he shoots in the direction of the noise and hits Larry with a bullseye. Larry is defeated, a fifth magic gem is obtained, and Mario and Yoshi friendship still lives on. Meanwhile, Bowser is desperate, pleading Morton and Roy to be careful, while Peach is enjoying being hit by the guys at the beach.
Chapter 4[edit]
アイスマウンテン
With five magic gems, Mario and Yoshi do not know where to proceed. A Toad girl named Wellber approaches them, telling them that a giant frog is holding one atop the Spirit Mountain. She offers to guide them, while she return to her home on the mountain. Meanwhile, Toad seemingly located Mario and Yoshi and inform Luigi and Peach about it. On their way up the mountain, the group is ambushed by a Boomerang Brother. Seeing a boomerang flying towards Wellber, Yoshi protects her, but Mario defeats the enemy with a couple of good shots, earning Wellber's compliments and cheers, much to Yoshi's jealosy (until he realize that, if Mario falls for Wellber, he could "console" Peach).
On top of the mountain, Morton sees the group approaching and activates his frog mecha to summon a snow storm. When the duo warns Wellber to be careful, she reveals to be Wendy in disguise and that they fell for her and his brother's trap. She then comes to the twisted conclusion that, since she technically offed herself with her own bombs before, Mario is then not responsible for her defeat, meaning that he cares for her, but she is once again rejected. From a hologram in the sky, Bowser laughs at Mario telling him that he will soon freeze to death, but Mario and Yoshi quickly build an igloo to fight the cold but that does not seem to work, until Mario realizes that Wendy's shell is red and Yoshi can gobble her to spit flames.
Some time later, Morton comes down the mountain to look for Mario's remains, only to find Mario, Yoshi, and a group of frogs that just woke up from hibernation around a campfire made out of Wendy's shell. Thinking the worse, Morton is relieved to see her sister alive, just shelless and with a towel to cover herself. The battle begins and Morton gets the upperhand, but suddenly by the frogs try to hit on his mecha, distracting him enough for Mario to make his move and blow him up. The explosion causes Wendy's towel to flip, revealing her butt, leaving Yoshi's mouth wide-open from the shock. A piece of the mecha falls in his mouth, and due to it being blue, Yoshi grows wings, allowing the heroes to reach the floating castle.
Meanwhile, Toad is getting yelled at by Luigi because he brought them to the wrong red-wearing human and dinosaur companion: Bertha and movie-Yoshi.
GO! GO! Mario Paint Theater![edit]
マリオペイント - モト
At Mario's castle, Luigi takes the mail and loudly informs his brother that they got invited to Peach's cottage. Hearing this, Daisy, Wendy, Yoshi, and Bowser join them, much to their displeasure. During the trip to the cottage, Luigi offers to carry Daisy's bag when she announces to be tired. Taking advantage of his kindness, the others too give them their bags, leaving him struggling with the heavy bags.
Once at the cottage, the group is welcomed by Peach and an apparently-redeemed Wario. Luigi collapses from the fatigue and is carried inside, where Wario tends to him, offering him a juice which he poisoned. After a while, Luigi screams and when everybody barges in his room, they find him unconcious, hurt and bleeding on the floor. Everyone is scared and cannot find any clues on who did this, until Mario points out that Luigi drew the culprit on Mario Paint, to which Wario starts to sweat.
Cameos and caricatures[edit]
Fictional characters[edit]
- Molians (Super Scope 6): Bertha challenges Mario to squash the Molians in her garden to retrieve the Super Scope. Molians are enemies in the "Mole Hunt" mode in Super Scope 6, another SNES game that made use of the Scope.
Real-life establishments[edit]
- Juliana's: At the end of chapter 2, Peach is seen having fun to the disco, while wearing a bodycon dress and chanting "go-go", characteristics of the Juliana's disco founded in 1991. Interestingly, the same year this volume was published, Juliana's disco would close its doors at the end of August.
