X, formerly Twitter, is a social networking website. It employs a microblogging format that emphasizes brevity, allowing regular users to submit posts using a limited character count. The website is also a popular communication and marketing venue for many institutions and corporations, including Nintendo, who have used it to promote Super Mario media and products.

Nintendo has also directly collaborated with the site's parent company in service of their own products. One such instance is the former integration of direct screenshot uploading from the Wii U and Nintendo Switch onto Twitter. On other occasions, some interface elements on the site were added or modified to bring exposure to certain Super Mario media; these are detailed below.

Hashflags[edit]

The following Super Mario–related hashflags, or hashmojis, which are special emojis automatically placed next to a hashtag, have been created to promote various Super Mario media:[1]

  • The hashflag of a Goob to promote the release of Luigi's Mansion 3, which accompanied the hashtags #LuigisMansion3, #LuigisMansion, #Luigi, and #Gooigi.[2]
  • The hashflag of Mario in a Pipe Frame to promote Mario Kart Tour, which accompanied the hashtags #MarioKartTour, #MarioKart, and #MKT.[3]
  • The hashflag of Mario's sprite from Super Mario Bros. to promote the 35th anniversary of the game from September 3, 2020 to December 5, 2020 and from January 28, 2021 to April 28, 2021, which accompanied the hashtags #SuperMario35, #Mario35, #SuperMario, #Mario, #スーパーマリオ35周年, and #マリオ.[4]
  • The hashflag of Super Nintendo World's logo to promote the park's opening at Universal Studios Japan from February 1, 2021 to May 2, 2021, which accompanied the hashtags #WeAreMario, #SuperNintendoWorld, #SuperNintendoWorld’, #アソビの本能解き放て, #スーパーニンテンドーワールド, #スーパー・ニンテンドー・ワールド, and #スーパー・ニンテンドー・ワールド’.
  • The hashflag of a ? Block to promote The Super Mario Bros. Movie from October 6, 2022 to January 5, 2023 and from January 26, 2023 to May 1, 2023, which accompanied the hashtags #MarioMovie, #MarioBrosMovie, #SuperMarioBrosMovie, #SuperMarioMovie, #TheSuperMarioBrosMovie, #SuperMarioBrosLaPelicula, and #SuperMarioBrosLaPelícula.
  • The hashflag of the Spark Starburst to promote the release of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope from October 10, 2022 to January 9, 2023, which accompanied the hashtags #MarioRabbidsSparksOfHope, #SparksOfHope, #MarioRabbids, #MarioLapins, and #Rabbids.
  • The hashflag of Mario's icon from Super Mario Bros. Wonder to promote the game's release from October 19, 2023 to January 17, 2024, which accompanied the hashtags #Mario, #SuperMarioBrosWonder, #スーパーマリオ, #スーパーマリオブラザーズワンダー, and #マリオ.
  • The hashflag of the logo for Donkey Kong Country at Super Nintendo World to promote the area's opening at Universal Studios Japan from December 10, 2024 to January 10, 2025, which accompanied the hashtags #DonkeyKongCountry, #PLAYWILD!, #ドンキーコングがやってきた, #ドンキーコングのクレイジー・トロッコ, and #ドンキーコング・カントリー.

On MAR10 Day 2023, a Branded Like of a Super Mushroom appeared when users from the United States and United Kingdom liked a tweet containing the hashtag #SuperMarioMovie.[5]
