Bonus Videos are gameplay videos of New Super Mario Bros. U that provide tips or showcase exceptional feats across the game's various courses and challenges. Originally uploaded by Nintendo to YouTube via the New Super Mario Bros. U Channel on a periodic basis, these videos were later included in both the New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U bundle and in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. They serve a similar purpose to the hint movies in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

The official YouTube channel hosting these gameplay videos exists in multiple language variants. All of them were created on November 28, 2012, except for the American English variant, which was created on December 3, 2012. The channels simultaneously began their activity on December 21, 2012, following the original release of New Super Mario Bros. U.

Although all language versions feature the same gameplay footage (recorded from the English localization of the game), each provides video descriptions in its respective language. Most of these channels also localize the video titles accordingly, with the exception of the Russian channel, which uses the same titles as the British English counterpart.

Types

On both the YouTube channel and in the game's re-releases, the videos are sorted into categories based on their objective. On the YouTube channel, these categories are accessible as playlists. Some focus on collecting 1-Ups and Star Coins; others offer guides for beating challenges in Challenge Mode, being sorted by the type of challenge showcased, such as Time Attack and 1-Up Rally. Lastly, many videos feature "Super Play" performances that highlight advanced maneuvers and techniques.

The following is a chart listing the categories that Bonus Videos are sorted into, alongside links to the pertinent YouTube playlists for the channel's US version. The chart also lists the "New Videos" playlist that is exclusive to the YouTube channel. Since New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe omits the Boost Mode available in prior releases, the videos that showcase this mode are absent from this release of the game.

The two players advance rapidly through the course in this manner and even switch roles at the Checkpoint Flag: Luigi carries the Baby Yoshi in the first half of the course, then passes him to Mario for the second half.
	Luigi catches a lift	January 11, 2013	A three-player playthrough of Acorn Plains Way in which Mario and Yellow Toad work together to guide Luigi to the goal while keeping him airborne. They achieve this by repeatedly bouncing Luigi off of their heads. Meanwhile, Luigi stomps on eight enemies; as he maintains an uninterrupted aerial path, he receives a 1-Up in the process.
	The great power-up march	April 11, 2013	Boost Mode playthrough of Acorn Plains Way where the two players cooperate to "escort" multiple Super Mushrooms and a Super Acorn in the course's main area to the goal. The Mario player maneuvers around the existing power-ups to release more mushrooms from ? Blocks, while the GamePad player taps a specific Waddlewing at the beginning to make it drop its acorn. The power-ups automatically move along the ground, and the GamePad player assists them where needed to ensure they all reach the goal in a single file—either by tapping on them to make them hop over obstructions, or by placing Boost Blocks to carry them between ledges or create steps. In total, seven power-ups are brought to the Goal Pole, netting three 1-Ups once the Mario player touches the pole.
Acorn Plains-3	Ride on ice all the way to the goal	January 24, 2013	Nearing the end of Yoshi Hill, three players each freeze one Monty Mole into an Ice Block, then pick up their respective Ice Block. The three players move ahead onto a Flatbed Ferry floating up and down, where they jump on each other's Ice Block to form a stack. A fourth player, controlling Luigi, releases a Yoshi from a nearby ? Block, mounts him, and hops on the topmost Ice Block in the stack. The player at the bottom of the stack then tosses their Ice Block and sends it sliding forward together with all the players above it. As they reach the bottom, each player in the self-moving stack then throws their own Ice Block at key points to help the rest advance over obstacles. The Luigi player at the top ultimately launches themself from an Ice Block and uses Yoshi's Flutter Jump to reach the top of the Goal Pole for a 1-Up. Players left behind quickly enter Bubbles to float past obstacles and catch up to the remaining players.
Acorn Plains-4	A midair stroll with Balloon Baby Yoshi	December 28, 2012	Playthrough of Mushroom Heights in which the player uses the Flying Squirrel form combined with Balloon Baby Yoshi's floating ability to traverse the entire level without touching any platform. To accomplish this, the player throws Balloon Baby Yoshi ahead as he is close to fully deflating, then glides towards him, picks him back up in mid-air, and inflates him again, repeating this process to stay airborne throughout the course. The player also collects all three Star Coins in the course.
Acorn Plains-CASTLE	Icy roller-coasters	April 11, 2013	Multiplayer Boost Mode playthroughs of Lemmy's Swingback Castle and Dry Desert Mushrooms, each following the same premise: one or two players traversing a course while riding fast-moving Ice Blocks on a path of Boost Blocks created by the GamePad player. The Boost Blocks are often placed to form light slants that allow the Ice Block to evade obstructions. In the first playthrough, one player controlling Ice Mario freezes a Dry Bones at the beginning of the course, while the other player, controlling Mini Luigi, mounts the resulting Ice Block. The Mario player then lifts the block and sends it sliding forward. The GamePad player further assists Mini Luigi as Ice Mario retreats in a bubble, being pulled forward by the moving camera The second playthough features all four playable characters in Penguin form. Mario and Yellow Toad freeze the two Stone Spikes on the Mushroom Platform at the beginning of the course and pick up the resulting Ice Blocks. Yellow Toad remains on the Mushroom Platform, while Mario drops onto the Flatbed Ferry underneath. With proper timing and some Boost Blocks, the two release their Ice Blocks forward, with Luigi and Blue Toad each mounting one block mid-movement. The GamePad player proceeds to further assist them while Mario and Yellow Toad retreat into bubbles. The two players riding on ice sometimes crouch in order to avoid oncoming ? Blocks. They also reach the top of the Goal Pole.

Layer-Cake Desert-2	Fireball frenzy	January 29, 2013	"Fireball frenzy" redirects here. For the level in Donkey Kong Country 3, see Fire-Ball Frenzy. Speedrun of Perilous Pokey Cave in which the player defeats most Pokeys on the way to the goal by shooting fireballs directly into their heads. The player generally defeats Pokeys while approaching them, but may also jump over some, requiring the player to briefly turn around in mid-air to deliver those a hit.
	Mini Mario threads the needle!	February 13, 2013	Boost Mode speedrun of Perilous Pokey Cave. One player, controlling Mini Mario, dashes through the entire course. The GamePad player often taps on Pokeys to make their segments momentarily detach or make their bodies bounce altogether, creating small openings for Mini Mario to pass through.

Frosted Glacier-1	It's raining coins!	January 18, 2013	Five-player Boost Mode playthrough of Spinning-Star Sky. The GamePad user creates a path of Boost Blocks high above the ground for the Mario player to walk on. When Mario steps on a Boost Block, it releases multiple coins before shrinking and disappearing. With the help of the Flying Squirrel ability, Koopa Shells, and a Super Star, the other three players work together to collect every single coin in the course, including Star Coins and the coins coming from Boost Blocks, as they follow the lead player to the goal.

Frosted Glacier-2	Escorting Peachette	N/A	Multiplayer speedrun of Cooligan Fields. The player controlling Mario, who leads the group, uses Fire power to defeat all Cooligans on the way to the goal. Meanwhile, the player controlling Luigi carries Peachette and uses her to collect most of the coins released by defeated Cooligans. The players maintain a constant speed throughout the run. At the end, as the players touch the Goal Pole, Peachette's height boost allows her to reach the top of the pole, earning her a 1-Up.	N/A
Frosted Glacier-3	Follow that fireball	February 6, 2013	Speedrun of Prickly Goombas! in which the player, controlling Fire Mario, defeats most enemies on the way to the goal using jumps and fireballs. The player shoots fireballs frequently but deliberately, always targeting one or more oncoming enemies, and appears to chase the longer-distance fireballs, hence the video's title; in the last segment of the course, the player slides along the Turning Floors, getting enough speed to even surpass the thrown fireballs. With the titular Prickly Goombas, the player shoots a fireball while approaching one to burn its outer layer, then stomps on the Goomba just as it pops out, maintaining running momentum.
	The world's fastest penguin (with help)!	March 19, 2013	Boost Mode speedrun of Prickly Goombas! where one player, controlling Penguin Mario, dashes through the course entirely while using the character's belly-sliding ability, as the GamePad player taps enemies to move them out of the way. The latter player's actions namely cause Fire Piranha Plants to retreat in their pipes and Prickly Goombas to hop just enough for Penguin Mario to be able to pass underneath. The GamePad player also manipulates Turning Floors to turn forward instead of against Penguin Mario, giving the character more momentum.
	A barrage of Yoshi fire	February 13, 2013	Past the Checkpoint Flag of Prickly Goombas!, three players riding on Yoshis and one player controlling Fire Luigi cooperate to take down all enemies on the way to the goal by essentially creating a barrage of many fireballs. The skipping fireballs thrown back by Fire Luigi, who leads the group, can be grabbed by the Yoshis into their mouths and spat back to make them travel horizontally and with no collision; this is repeatedly exploited to fill the screen with projectiles.
	Fire dancers on ice	March 12, 2013	Nearing the goal in Prickly Goombas!, one player (controlling Ice Luigi) freezes a Fire Bro and picks up the resulting Ice Block, with the other player (controlling Fire Mario), mounting the block shortly thereafter. The Luigi player soon launches the Ice Block with Mario on it down a series of Turning Floors. The block defeats the Fire Piranha Plants on the ground as it slides forward, while the Mario player flicks fireballs to defeat and avoid the Piranha Plants hanging from above. This player then reaches the Goal Pole and clears the course, the Luigi player having retreated in a bubble.

Acorn Plains-5	Star Power	December 21, 2012	In Rise of the Piranha Plants, the player obtains a Super Star from a Hidden Block in the sub-area where the second Star Coin is located. While invincible, the player returns to the main area and runs through ten enemies, getting three 1-Ups for doing so.
	Peachette 1-Up rally (feat. Koopa Troopa)	N/A	At the beginning of Rise of the Piranha Plants, the player, who controls Peachette, stomps on a green Koopa Troopa, performs a Wall Jump from a nearby wall, then uses the Floating Jump ability to continue kicking off the same spot in the wall. This allows the player to stay airborne indefinitely. Meanwhile, the stomped Koopa Troopa recovers, allowing the player to stomp on it once again without touching the ground. Layer-Cake Desert-6	Carry the Shell for 1-Ups	December 28, 2012	In Blooming Lakitus, the player carries a red Koopa Shell past the Checkpoint Flag and sends it sliding into a series of Turning Floor structures carrying Piranha Plants and Big Piranha Plants. The player trails behind the shell as it strikes all of these enemies consecutively, which earns the player four 1-Ups.

Sparkling Waters-3	Dazzle the Cheep Cheeps for 1-Ups	January 11, 2013	Video showing a player traversing the entirety of Above the Cheep Cheep Seas while invincible. At the very start of the course, they obtain a Super Star from a hidden block located above the Water Geyser, and proceed to maintain invincibility by collecting other Super Stars from ? Blocks throughout the course. These ? Blocks do not produce Super Stars unless the player is already invincible. The player touches and defeats jumping Cheep Cheeps throughout the course, earning multiple 1-Ups for doing so.
Sparkling Waters-4	Shell + Urchins = 1-Up	January 11, 2013	In Urchin Shoals, the player picks up and throws a Koopa Shell into a row of eight Urchins carried up and down by Water Geysers. The shell slides across the columns of water as they reach their maximum height, taking out all Urchins in the row, which grants the player a 1-Up.
Sparkling Waters-5	Underwater Super Stars and 1-Ups	January 11, 2013	The player begins the course Dragoneel's Undersea Grotto in an invincible state. As they head underwater, they defeat numerous Eep Cheeps and Dragoneels by touching them on the way to the Checkpoint Flag. The player maintains their invincibility by collecting Super Stars from certain Brick Blocks; these blocks would not release Super Stars if the player was not already invincible. The player defeats enough enemies to earn twelve 1-Ups.
Frosted Glacier-2	1-Up Super Star in Cooligan Fields	January 11, 2013	In Cooligan Fields, shortly before the goal, the player climbs to the right of an inverted T–shaped pipe formation and jumps to reveal a hidden block containing a Super Star. Collecting the star, the player becomes invincible and runs through a convoy of Cooligans sliding in the opposite direction, defeating them in succession and earning six 1-Ups in the process.
	Freeze the Cooligan for a 1-Up	January 11, 2013	A video showcasing two areas in Cooligan Fields where the player freezes a Cooligan with an ice ball, causing it to careen into other Cooligans moving the opposite direction. The frozen Cooligan defeats them successively, rewarding the player with a 1-Up in the process.
Frosted Glacier-TOWER	Hit the POW Block for multiple 1-Ups	January 11, 2013	In Freezing-Rain Tower, the player is gradually surrounded by Dry Bones as the platform rises. When eleven Dry Bones are on-screen, the player activates a POW Block, destroying all of them simultaneously and getting three 1-Ups for doing so.
Frosted Glacier-3	Breathin' fire and earnin' 1-Ups	January 11, 2013	In the course Prickly Goombas!, the player uses Yoshi to retain a Fire Bro's fireball inside his mouth, then spit it at some Piranha Plants just as they come out of pipes. The player follows the fireball as it strikes other Piranha Plants successively on its path, defeating them and earning the player multiple 1-Ups.
Soda Jungle-5	Super Star swimming for 1-Ups	January 18, 2013	In Deepsea Ruins, the player grabs a Super Star from a ? Block and becomes invincible, defeating some nearby enemies, namely eight Boo Buddies and two Fish Bones, by touching them. This action earns the player three 1-Ups.
Soda Jungle-CASTLE	Freeze the Dry Bones for 1-Ups	January 18, 2013	In Iggy's Volcanic Castle, the player freezes a Dry Bones using the Ice power. Timing the lava tide in sync with the platforms that rise and lower, the player throws the frozen Dry Bones and sends it sliding into a row of ten other Dry Bones, defeating them and earning three 1-Ups in the process.

Soda Jungle-6	Defeat the Piranhas for 1-Ups	January 18, 2013	In an area with many River Piranha Plants in Seesaw Bridge, the player stomps on a red Koopa Troopa and picks up its shell, then throws it at a Wiggler to the right. The shell knocks out the Wiggler, rebounds off a wall, and slides on the surface of the poisonous bog, defeating the River Piranha Plants as well. Having taken out nine enemies with a single shell, the player is rewarded two 1-Ups.
	One Roulette Block, multiple 1-Ups	January 18, 2013	In Seesaw Bridge, the player obtains a Super Star from a Roulette Block and rushes to the end of the course while invincible, defeating many enemies, which nets the player multiple 1-Ups. To maintain invincibility, the player collects other Super Stars from ? Blocks along the way; these blocks only produce Super Stars while the player is already invincible.

Rock-Candy Mines-4	A string of Stars and 1-Ups	January 24, 2013	Playthrough of Light Blocks, Dark Tower in which the player traverses the entire course while invincible. The player first collects a Super Star from an obscured ? Block at the course's starting point to become invulnerable. While the player is in this state, all other ? Blocks in the course produce Super Stars, helping the player maintain their invincibility along the way. The player also defeats multiple enemies by touching them, earning a total of twenty-one 1-Ups by the end of the course.
Rock-Candy Mines-5	Shoot for the Star for 1-Ups	January 24, 2013	In Walking Piranha Plants!, the player obtains a Super Star from a Roulette Block. While invincible, the player successively defeats fourteen enemies by running into them, earning seven 1-Ups in the process.
Rock-Candy Mines-7	Spike Top toppling for 3-Up	January 24, 2013	In Shifting-Floor Cave, the player stomps on a red Koopa Troopa, picks up its shell, and sends it sliding in-between two red and white platforms populated with Spike Tops. The shell takes out all six of these Spike Tops and falls to the bottom floor, where it hits four more Spike Tops. The player earns three 1-Ups for defeating all of these enemies with a single shell.
	Get the Star and dash for 1-Ups	January 24, 2013	In Shifting-Floor Cave, the player obtains a Super Star and becomes invincible. In this state, the player touches and defeats twelve enemies, earning five 1-Ups for doing so.
Meringue Clouds-3	Stomp Bullet Bills for endless 1-Ups	January 29, 2013	In an area with multiple rotating Bill Blasters in Switchback Hill, the player jumps on a multitude of Bullet Bills consecutively to earn 1-Ups.
Meringue Clouds-4	1-Up Star dash at sunset	January 29, 2013	In Bouncy Cloud Boomerangs, shortly after the third Star Coin, the player hits one in a series of four Brick Blocks to reveal a Super Star, then grabs it to become invincible. The player proceeds to defeat the surrounding Goombas and Piranha Plants by touching them, then moves onward to defeat every other enemy on the way to the goal, prolonging their own invincibility with an additional Super Star obtained from a ? Block. In the end, the player defeats fifteen enemies during a continuous period of invincibility, earning eight 1-Ups.
Meringue Clouds-5	Super Star Cannon jump for 1-Ups	January 29, 2013	In an area shortly after the Checkpoint Flag of A Quick Dip in the Sky, the player reveals and collects a Super Star from a Hidden Block. Having become invincible, the player heads into a Fuzzy to defeat it, then up above in an area concealed by a false wall, where a Pipe Cannon is located. This pipe shoots the player through one Koopa Troopa and a column of Koopa Paratroopas. As the invincibility wanes, the player touches and defeats one more Fuzzy. The player ultimately earns two 1-Ups for defeating all these enemies during a continuous period of invincibility.
Peach's Castle-4	1-Ups in Firefall Cliffs	January 29, 2013	In Firefall Cliffs, the player collects a Super Star from a ? Block in an area before the Checkpoint Flag, where the camera moves diagonally. While invincible, the player starts touching and destroying multiple of Bowser's Flames raining down. Having prolonged their invincibility by obtaining one more Super Star from a subsequent ? Block, the player ultimately destroys twelve of Bowser's Flames, which nets them five 1-Ups.
Superstar Road-1	Fuzzy 1-Up rally	February 6, 2013	In Spine-Tingling Spine Coaster, the player collects a Super Star from a ? Block at the top of a slow hill ascent. As the Spine Coaster speeds forward, the player touches and defeats a number of Big Fuzzies while invincible. Another ? Block lies ahead which also produces a Super Star, helping the player prolong their invincibility and defeat more Big Fuzzies. The player defeats ten enemies in total and is awarded three 1-Ups for doing so.
Superstar Road-4	Swinging hammer + Shell = 1-Up	February 6, 2013	In Hammerswing Caverns, the player encounters an aggregation of nine red Koopa Troopas. After stomping on one of the Koopas and picking up its shell, a Hammer Pendulum in this area swings left, momentarily creating a bridge between the two platforms holding the other eight Koopa Troopas. The player releases the shell, which slides across the "bridge" and defeats all of these Koopas in a row. This results in the player earning a 1-Up.
Superstar Road-8	Bony Beetle 1-Up dash	February 6, 2013	In Pendulum Castle, the player enters the room containing the second Star Coin, then navigates the large Spinners to reach a ? Block at the other side of the room. The block releases a Super Star when hit, which the player uses to turn invincible. In this state, the player proceeds to plough through all eight Bony Beetles at the bottom, take a pipe back to the main area of the course, and defeat three more Bony Beetles. Having defeated a total of eleven enemies during a continuous state of invincibility, the player earns four 1-Ups.
Superstar Road-9	Shell-bound 1-Up streak	February 13, 2013	Playthrough of Follow That Shell! in which the player showcases how to achieve a long, continuous 1-Ups streak by defeating enemies during the course using just one Koopa Troopa's shell. The course already features many winding paths designed to easily conduct a sliding Koopa shell through groups of enemies, so the player simply follows the shell for the most part. However, the player may sometimes intervene to gain extra 1-Ups: either by hitting Brick Blocks to push Koopa Troopas into the moving shell; or by activating a P Switch at the right time to turn some coins into Brick Blocks and help direct the shell into several Goombas. The shell additionally hits two blocks that release 1-Up Mushrooms and helps collect entire rows of coins, contributing a few 1-Ups. In total, this technique earns the player thirty-one 1-Ups.

Acorn Plains-3	Yoshi carries Luigi	December 21, 2012	Co-op playthrough of Yoshi Hill in which one player (controlling Mario) uses Yoshi to carry the other player (controlling Luigi) to the goal. This video showcases a trick where Yoshi repeatedly spits out Luigi to let him stomp on the course's enemies, then quickly takes him back into his mouth before he touches the ground, which nets Luigi's player multiple 1-Ups.
	Follow the fireball to earn 1-Ups	December 28, 2012	In Yoshi Hill, Yoshi takes a Fire Piranha Plant's fireball in his mouth and spits it back at the plant from the right side. The fireball travels to the left, with the player following it backwards through the course. As the fireball strikes multiple enemies, the player receives many 1-Ups.
Layer-Cake Desert-2	Synchro ground-pound Pokeys for 1-Ups	January 11, 2013	Three-player playthrough of Perilous Pokey Cave showcasing a trick where the players can earn many 1-Ups using the Ice power, Synchro Ground-Pounds, and Pokeys. When freezing a Pokey, its segments break apart into individual elements; if enough frozen segments are on-screen, players earn extra lives by destroying them all with a Synchro Ground-Pound. As the course abounds with Pokeys, this trick is demonstrated at various moments in the video. Other enemies encountered in the course, such as Swoops, are also defeated if they are on-screen while the technique is used, contributing additional 1-Ups.

Just before the area with multiple Flatbed Ferries carrying Stalking Piranha Plants, the player stomps a Koopa Troopa and grabs its shell. The player then moves past the first two Flatbed Ferries and tosses the shell into the Stalking Piranha Plants on the third ferry to clear the path. Because this specific Flatbed Ferry begins rising at this moment in the run, the player must perform a high jump from the previous platform to land on it; without the shell, the player would also have to slow down in order to avoid the enemies quickly scurrying against the player, losing momentum.
Stoneslide Tower Climb Gold Medal Run	April 4, 2013	A guide to getting the gold medal in the Stoneslide Tower Climb challenge. To save time, the player tends to avoid using the screwtops and instead kick off walls and bounce off of Dry Bones to quickly advance further up. Only two screwtops are briefly used throughout the run: one right after the second Star Coin, which moves away a Screwtop Platform directly above, and another just before the goal, which creates a long shaft for the player to shoot through from Pipe Cannons.
Screwtop It Up Gold Medal Run	April 4, 2013	A guide to getting the gold medal in the Screwtop It Up challenge. The player almost never rides the Screwtop Platforms to the end of the track, using them only as far as needed to reach the next platform.
