Hammerswing Caverns, or Superstar Road-4, is the fourth course of Superstar Road in New Super Mario Bros. U. It is unlocked when the player collects every Star Coin in Frosted Glacier.

Layout[edit]

The course is based on the course Icicle Caverns from Frosted Glacier. The level begins outside, with a Warp Pipe leading to the icy underground area. To the left of the Warp Pipe is a hidden area with a ? Block that contains a 1-Up Mushroom. Two Huge Icicles fall onto platforms, with a ? Block found above a platform in between. Two Hammer Pendulums are found, and one can be used to reach a ? Block above an icy platform. Another Huge Icicle is found next to a small one, along with a group of Koopa Troopas. More Hammer Pendulums are found, and are used to cross above a pit. Another Huge Icicle falls onto a platform, and a Buzzy Beetle can be found nearby. A group of icicles is found above a pit crossed by two Hammer Pendulums. A Buzzy Beetle is found underneath Brick Blocks, followed by a Hammer Pendulum on a track. Four icicles and a ? Block are found as the Hammer Pendulum moves. A slope with multiple Buzzy Beetles and icicles on it is encountered, followed by a two Huge Icicles. A Green Ring is found before another Hammer Pendulum on a track. Two Hammer Pendulums are found before another one on a track, and a P Switch can be used to cause Blue Coins to appear. A Paratroopa and a Warp Pipe are found. The player is led back outside, where a Hammer Pendulum and the Goal Pole are found.

Alternatively, the player can use a P-Acorn to fly up above the wall before the pipe leading underground, which will lead to the end of the level.

Star Coins[edit]

  • Star Coin 1: The first Star Coin is near the beginning of the level. After the player passes the first set of double swinging platforms, there is an alcove slightly transparent. The player should jump into the hidden alcove in the ceiling.
  • Star Coin 2: The player will need to use the Flying Squirrel suit or Peachette (New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe only) to glide under a ledge and reach a Warp Pipe that contains the second Star Coin. A P Switch must be pressed to turn the Brick Blocks blocking it into coins.
  • Star Coin 3: The final Star Coin is found at the end of the level. The player can reach the wall beside it with a running start and wall-jump to it. The player can use the Flying Squirrel suit or Peachette to reach it as well.
