Parachutes appear in the Super Mario franchise as objects that are attached to enemies and items to make them fall slower. Once the enemy or item reaches the ground, the parachute usually disappears or is released.

Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario World[edit]
Parachutes first appear in Super Mario World, where there are two enemies that have them: Para-Goombas (later renamed Parachute Galoombas) and Parabombs. Reappearances of both enemy variants in later games also include their parachutes and are not covered in this article. Parachutes in this game have alternating white and blue stripes. Both show up in various other games.
Super Mario Maker 2[edit]
The parachute returns as a distinct object in Super Mario Maker 2, where it can be placed on almost every enemy and item, resulting in many more parachuting variants besides the ones introduced in Super Mario World. The parachutes retain their appearance from Super Mario World in the Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U styles, are red in the Super Mario Bros. style, and have white and pink stripes in the Super Mario Bros. 3 style.
Yoshi's Story[edit]
In Yoshi's Story, aside from Parabombs, parachutes also sometimes carry melons, Heart Fruits, and Delay Switches. The parachutes in this game have white and red stripes instead of white and blue.
Yoshi Topsy-Turvy[edit]
In Yoshi Topsy-Turvy, parachutes hold items like coins and apples, though bombs also appear on them. They slowly descend and can be eaten, though this causes the item they carry to drop. They are the functional opposite of Item Balloons, which carry items upwards. Parachutes have red, yellow and blue stripes.
Super Princess Peach[edit]
Glad Parabombs, a variant of the Parabomb, appears in Super Princess Peach, similarly carrying parachutes with them. In this game, they have white and orange stripes.
Paper Mario: The Origami King[edit]
Another variant of the Parabomb, the Paper Macho Bob-ombs, appear in Paper Mario: The Origami King only during the Hotfoot Crater escape sequence. They retain their appearance from Super Mario World.
Mario Kart World[edit]
In Mario Kart World, planes can throw out Item Boxes with parachutes. In this game they again have white and red stripes, similar to the ones in Yoshi's Story.
