Paper Mario: The Origami King bestiary

The following is a bestiary for all enemies encountered in Paper Mario: The Origami King.

LegendEdit

  • Name: What the enemy is called.
    • Normal: Enemy (e.g. Goomba)
    • Bold: Boss (e.g. Earth Vellumental)
    • Italic: Mini-boss (e.g. Boss Sumo Bro)
  • HP: The enemy's HP at the start of the battle.
  • Type: The type of enemy.
    • Grounded: If the enemy is grounded, it is vulnerable to Hammer attacks. These are also generally vulnerable to Jump attacks, if they are not Spiked or Fiery.
    • Spiked: If the enemy is spiked, Mario will take damage from Jump attacks against it, but can safely use Iron Jumps.
    • Fiery: A trait given to the Fire Vellumental. Mario will take damage from Jump attacks on it, but can safely use Iron Jumps.
    • Flying: If the enemy is flying, it will dodge any Hammer attacks.
    • Floating: If the enemy is floating, it can be hit by hammer attack but floats above POW Block attacks.
    • Shelled: Lists if the enemy has a shell. When a shelled enemy hides in their shell, they can be kicked away, but take half damage from Hammer attacks.
    • Flippable: If an enemy is flippable, it can be flipped over, either with a jump or a POW Block. When flipped over, the enemy is temporarily stunned.
    • Transformable: If the enemy can transform, there is an interaction that can change it into a different enemy. An example is a Paragoomba losing its wings to become a Goomba.
    • Counters Jumps: A trait given to Handaconda, Tape, and Scissors, which leads to them dealing damage or counter-attacking if they are hit by a Jump or Iron Jump.
    • Counters Hammers: A trait given to Ninjis, which leads to them counter-attacking if they are about to be hit by a hammer.
  • Item Drops: Items sometimes dropped by the enemy. The amount of item drops determines how many times the chances are rolled: for example, a set dropping 3 items could generate 1 Coin, then nothing, then 1 Coin, resulting in 2 Coins being dropped. There are six unique item sets: one that can drop a Mushroom, three that can drop extra confetti, one for Shoe Goombas, and one for Mechakoopas. Bosses, minibosses, and Dry Bones do not have item sets. BTL_ZAKO_LV1, BTL_ZAKO_LV2, and BTL_ZAKO_LV3 are identical.

  • Moves: The enemy's attacks (with maximum possible damage) and other techniques.
    • An attack's damage is calculated by a "base" value that is dependent on how many enemies are included in the attack. After this, a "range" damage is added, and where a random number between 0 and the range is added to the attack's damage. For example, a Wave Headbonk with four or five Goombas attacking has a base damage of 2 and a range of 2, so each attack can hit for 2, 3, or 4 damage.
  • Location(s): The location(s) in which the enemy appears.
