Monopoly: The Super Mario Bros. Movie Edition is an edition of Monopoly themed after and released alongside The Super Mario Bros. Movie on April 5, 2023 by Hasbro.[citation needed] Like with previous editions of Monopoly themed to the Super Mario franchise, all properties are based on locations from the film, railroads are replaced by Warp Pipes, tokens and cards feature elements from the film, and banknotes are replaced by coins. In addition to the player tokens in the original board game, this edition also includes a Bowser token and includes special rules for the token.
Gameplay[edit]
First, the player should choose someone to be the Banker, who is in charge of the Bank's money. Next, the player gives each player five coins and five Five Coins (each worth five coins). The player then places the Bowser token on the Free Parking space. They then shuffle the Bowser's Fury and Question Block cards separately and place them on them respective spaces on the board facedown. Each player then chooses a token and places it on GO. Each player then rolls the dice, with the highest roller going first.
Turn order[edit]
At the beginning of their turn, if the player has any properties that are in "Game Over" mode, they may pay the Bank the cost indicated on the card to "Continue" these properties. The player then flips the card faceup so that the rent cost can be seen. The player then rolls the dice and moves the Bowser token the number of spaces shown on the black die. After the moving the Bowser token:
- If the Bowser token passed any players, they must pay one coin to the Bank.
- If the Bowser token lands on the same space as any players, they must battle Bowser.
- If the Bowser token lands on a location, the location enters "Game Over" mode.
The player then moves their token the number spaces shown on both dice and carries out the action of the space they land on. Afterwards, play passes to the player on their left.
Bowser[edit]
Landing on a property[edit]
Each time after the player rolls the dice, they move the Bowser token the number of spaces shown on the black die. The player always moves the Bowser token the number of spaces shown on the black die, and always before they move their own token.
When the Bowser token lands on an owned location, the location is now in "Game Over" mode, and the owner must immediately the location's Title Deed facedown so that the "Continue" cost can be seen. No player can collect rent on a location in "Game Over" mode, and is effectively the same as a mortgaged property in the original game, except the player does not receive money when the Bowser token puts a location in "Game Over" mode. To "Continue" the property, the player must pay the cost indicated on the card and flip the card faceup. This usually can only be done at the beginning of the player except if is given to them by a bankrupted player, in which case they can immediately continue it.
If the Bowser token lands on an unowned location, the location is still put in "Game Over" mode, and the player flips the Title Deed facedown. The location can still be purchased or auctioned, but the new owner must "Continue" the location before they can collect rent.
If a player owns a complete color set, Bowser cannot set the locations in the color set into "Game Over" mode. If any of the locations are already in "Game Over" mode, they may immediately continue them for free.
Being on the same space as any players[edit]
If the Bowser token is on the same space as the player, they must immediately battle Bowser. The player chooses another player to battle Bowser with and both players each roll one of the dice. (If the space the Bowser token lands has them and two or more players, each of the other players roll the dice, with the highest roller joining the player in battling Bowser.) If the combined roll is 7 or higher, the players defeated Bowser and both players collect two coins from the Bank. The player then places the Bowser token on GO, which remains on that space until all other players have completed their turn. Afterwards, players continue moving him based on the number shown on the black die.
If the combined roll is 6 or lower, Bowser wins and the player is sent directly to Jail. Their teammate and Bowser stay on their board space.
Passing another player[edit]
If the Bowser token passes the player, they must immediately pay the Bank one coin. However, if the player passes Bowser, nothing happens and the player finishes their turn as normal.
Spaces[edit]
Chance spaces are replaced with Question Blocks, Community Chest spaces are replaced with "Bowser's Fury," and all railroads are replaced with Warp Pipes. In addition, there are only two properties per color group.

GO[edit]
Whenever the player passes or lands on GO, they collect two coins from the Bank.
Bowser's Fury and Question Block[edit]
These replace the Community Chest and Chance spaces in the original game. Like the original spaces, whenever the player lands on these spaces, they take the top card from the respective and carries out the action stated on the card. Afterwards, they return the card to the bottom of the respective deck.
Super Star[edit]
Whenever the player lands on the Super Star space, they roll the red die and collect the number of coins shown on the die from the Bank. It replaces Electric Company from the original game, and its inverse counterpart is the Piranha Plant space.
Piranha Plant[edit]
Whenever the player lands on the Piranha Plant space, they roll the red die and pay the number of coins shown on the die to the Bank. It replaces Luxury Tax from the original game, and its inverse counterpart is the Super Star space.
Warp Pipe[edit]
Whenever the player lands on a Warp Pipe space, they move to the next Warp Pipe space, collecting two coins from the Bank if they pass GO.
Free Parking[edit]
Like the original game, Free Parking serves as a rest space for the player. In addition to this, if Bowser lands on Free Parking, the player does not need to battle him, and the player does not pay one coin to the Bank if he passes them.
Just Visiting[edit]
Like the original game, Just Visiting serves as a rest space for the player. Unlike Free Parking, however, the player is not immune to Bowser if he passes the player or lands on their space.
Go to Jail[edit]
Like the original game, landing on Go to Jail forces the player to put their token in the In Jail space. The player can still collect rent, "Continue" properties, bid during auctions, and trade while in Jail, but they cannot battle Bowser while in Jail, and they do not pay one coin to the Bank if Bowser passes them. The player can get out of Jail by paying one coin to the Bank, using a Get Out of Jail Free card, or rolling doubles one their next turn. The player can use up to three turns to attempt to roll doubles, though if the player does not roll doubles by their third turn in Jail, they must pay one coin to the Bank and use their last roll to move.
End of game[edit]
Like the original game, the game ends when only one player is left in the game after all other players have gone bankrupt, with that player winning the game. The game can also end if Bowser has put every location in "Game Over" mode, in which case all players lose the game.

Notes[edit]
- If the Bowser token is on the same space as the player and all other players are in Jail, the player is unable to battle Bowser. This effectively puts the game in an unwinnable state, as the player needs another player to battle Bowser with and players cannot battle Bowser while in Jail.
