Donkey Kong (trading cards)
Donkey Kong is a set of collectible trading cards released in 1982 by Topps. The cards were sold in individual packages, each of which contained three rub-off cards depicting each of the Donkey Kong arcade game's four levels, a stick of bubblegum, and three stickers depicting the game's characters.
The rub-off cards are labeled "How to Play Donkey Kong" on their reverse ends, and serve as activities that the player is to complete for points. Players are to use a coin to scratch off one dot at a time, beginning at Mario. The game ends when the player reaches the dot closest to the Beautiful Girl. Reaching this dot awards the player 100 points. In addition, the player can uncover items to obtain points; a Hammer awards 20 points, a birthday cake awards 50, and the phone, umbrella, and lunchpail award ten points each.
Players are out of the game once any combination of three Fireballs and barrels are uncovered. The reverse ends of the cards also state that any number of players can play, and that they are to take turns scratching off dots; whoever reaches the Beautiful Girl with the highest score wins. If all players are already out of the game, whoever had the highest score prior to getting out wins. The back of the cards also provide two boxes, which the player can use to record their name and their score.
