Variant of Volcano

Volcanoes[1] are small breakable hills in New Super Mario Bros. 2. Unlike normal volcanoes found in lava-themed courses, these volcanoes occur only in the desert-themed World 2-B and do not cause any damage. They do not release volcanic debris and they can be safely walked across. Their craters are covered in a dark red crust, contrasting with the lighter surrounding ground, and they are flanked by quicksand. These volcanoes erupt when their craters are struck by Bob-ombs, which are launched as Para-bombs from Bob-omb Cannons in World 2-B. Upon being struck, these volcanoes spew dozens of collectible coins.

There are five total volcanoes in World 2-B: four aboveground, and one in an underground sub-area accessible only through a stream of quicksand located right of the Checkpoint Flag. This volcano releases the course's second Star Coin when broken.
