The Witch's Cauldrons[1] are platforms and obstacle found in the Witch's Mansion Course in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins.
While they act as normal Semisolid Platform throughout the course, during the boss fight against Witch, she uses her fire magic to lit fires under the three cauldrons (normally the one Mario is currently standing on) to boil the water inside and send the leaping lids[2] on the roof covered in spikes, causing him to take damage.
They also appear as Witch's weapons in the game adaptations.
In Mario vs. Wario of the Super Mario Adventures, after accidentally roasting Big Bird, the Witch sends two leaping lids against Mario by boiling two nearby cauldrons (depicted more like clay pots). He stumbles in fear and the handles of the lid perfectly slide on his shoes. Being made out of wood, Mario is able to walk across the lake, thanking the Witch for the "floatation devices," leaving her stunned.
In Super Mario Land 2 - 6-tsu no Kinka 1 of the Super Mario Kodansha manga, the Witch manages to pin Mario onto a leaping lid ready to blow against the spiked ceiling, also explaining that in the same cauldron she is brewing a potion to turn the previously captured Princess Peach into a lizard. Due to Battle Beetle's intervention, the Witch stumbles and accidentally frees Peach, who uses the Bunny form to rescue Mario by certain death by moving the leaping lid out of the way just as it was sent flying. The liquid geyes, instead, fall onto the Witch, turning her into a giant lizard.
In Volume 8 of Super Mario-kun, the Witch uses the cauldrons to cook the inhabitants of Pumpkin Zone. During the battle, she uses two leaping lids against Carrot and Yokkī, squashing them together, and turning them into a Yokkī with Bunny ears.
