A Lift Block,[1] also referred to as an Elevator[2] (or elevator),[3] is a type of block in Super Mario Land. It is found only within Hidden Blocks in two levels, World 1-3 and World 3-2. When it is revealed, the player can stand atop the Lift Block and ride it up to the top of the screen, which leads to either coins or a pipe to a treasure room.
A single elevator appears in the Game Boy comic In the Palm of Your Hand.... While Mario, Josh, and Rick are fighting against Tatanga's minions in the World Trade Center station, Josh realizes that, if Tatanga's engineers reconstructed the station as World 1-3 of Super Mario Land, it may have everything the level has. He tells Mario to hit the second block to the left of the Gao's perch, and Mario, hitting the block, finds an elevator, which he uses to travel to the Windows on the World restaurant on the top of the North Tower of the World Trade Center, where Tatanga and his army are.
