Poison needles[1] are hazards found in Super Mario Land. They resemble tall, thin, spaced-apart cones, and they are primarily found in the Easton Kingdom, appearing in World 3-1, World 3-2, and World 3-3. While usually located on the ground, poison needles can occasionally be seen on top of Empty Blocks, primarily in secret areas. If Mario touches poison needles, he takes damage. With poison needles being solid objects, Mario can stand on top of them during periods of invincibility. In order to cross some floors of poison needles, Mario can ride on top of Ganchans, which will bounce on top of them without being destroyed.
Poison needles serve the same role as floor-lined spikes seen in other games.
