HistoryEdit

In the Palm of Your Hand...Edit

In In the Palm of Your Hand..., in his apartment in Piscataway, Herman Smirch, who had managed to reach the final level of Super Mario Land, allows Tatanga to blow up the Sky Pop, along with Mario. After telling his pet hamster Attila what he did to Mario, he looks at his watch and realizes that it is time to go work. He bids farewell to Attila, telling it not to let any "creeps" in his apartment while he is gone.

While waiting for the bus, Herman is approached by a homeless man looking for money. Annoyed and disgusted by the man, Herman tells him to go away, saying that "beggars should all be shot!" The beggar, insulted, claims to be a war veteran with a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, telling him that, though he does not have a job or a place to live, it does not mean that he has to put up with his attitude. Herman, not knowing what to do, tries to persuade the man to go away by offering him a quarter. The homeless man, angry at his attitude, tells Herman to keep his quarter and "stuff it!" The bus then arrives at Herman's stop, and he rides it to the Wonder World Mall, where his workplace, Lev's 'Lectronics, is located.

It's a Small World After AllEdit

In It's a Small World After All, Herman is first seen yelling at some girls who are singing "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" outside from his apartment, telling them to be quiet. Apologizing to his mother on the phone, explaining that the "brats" drive him crazy sometimes, he tells her that he is afraid to leave his apartment, explaining that he got a Game Boy and that Tatanga needs his help to escape the video game world. Believing him to be insane, his mother tells him to get rid of the Game Boy and return home. He then gives his Game Boy to the girls playing outside, with them in shock, explaining that they thought he did not like them, to which he lies that he always loved them. He then decides to get some fresh air and takes a walk outside on the sidewalk.

However, a few blocks away, he soon becomes possessed by an urge to open "the gateway" and walks into the middle of traffic. Arriving at the front of an electronics store, Samson's Electronics, he picks up a brick on the ground and hurls it into a display window containing several electronics, including some Game Boys. Stealing one of the Game Boys on display, he makes through a crowd of pedestrians that surround him. Two police attempt to arrest him, but Herman simply punches them unconscious. He then walks into an alleyway to open the gateway as more pedestrians arrive at the scene of the robbery, summoning Tatanga and his army.

Explaining that Princess Daisy has become sadder than usual, Tatanga tasks Herman with finding a suitable vacation spot, the latter suggesting that he could take Daisy to Disney World. Ten minutes later, Tatanga's army blasts a bus whose drive refused to give up his vehicle, and hijack a semi truck. After removing the cargo from the truck, they then head to Newark Airport with Herman as the driver, despite his protests that he does not know how to drive a stick shift.
