History[edit]

Game Boy comics[edit]

The World Trade Center prominently appears in the Game Boy comic In the Palm of Your Hand.... After Daisy manages to convince Tatanga to stop his takeover of the Wonder World Mall to get her some lunch, Tatanga asks Herman Smirch of the finest "world" in which to eat, to which he responds that Mr. Levison took all of his employees to the Windows on the World restaurant on the top of North Tower of the World Trade Center. Tatanga, pleased with this answer, demands that he lead him and his army to the restaurant. They end up at the restaurant, where Tatanga's second-in-command, Pionpi, begins demanding food for Tatanga's army through violence. In the Pagosu, Daisy attempts to convince Tatanga to renounce his ways, though he says that he will only do so if she marries him, which Daisy refuses.

Mario, alongside his allies Josh and Rick, eventually arrive at Windows on the World and begin fighting Tatanga's army. As Daisy is pleased that Mario will save her, Tatanga tells her to sit down before ordering Pionpi to kill Mario. Mario, after narrowly escaping the clutches of Tatanga's army, is swatted by Herman with a food tray, though is saved by Rick by before he can fall into the hands of Tatanga's army. After Josh informs him of the presence of some nearby ? Blocks constructed by Tatanga's engineers, Mario hits and finds a Starman, turning him invincible and using it to defeat Tatanga's army, planning to defeat Tatanga next. As Herman flees the scene, Tatanga orders his guards to activate the Pagosu, only to be stopped by Daisy, who does not want neither him nor Mario to be killed (as on Earth, one only lives once), convincing him to return to Sarasaland. He then orders his minions to activate the Warp Zone vortex, with him and his army entering it shortly after.

As Mario becomes infuriated by Tatanga's escape, he realizes that he must re-enter the Game Boy; otherwise he will be trapped on Earth. After Rick hands Josh his Game Boy, Mario returns to the video game world, telling them to call him if Tatanga escapes again, just as the police arrive.

Super Mario Bros. film[edit]

The World Trade Center makes an appearance during the climax of the 1993 Super Mario Bros. film. When the dimensions of the real world and Dinohattan merge, the World Trade Center transforms into Koopa's Tower.

Club Nintendo[edit]

The World Trade Center makes a cameo in the background of New York City in the Club Nintendo comic "Mario in Mariozilla", as Mario, having been enlarged by Kamek, makes his way through the city in search of Dr. Light, crashing into several buildings along the way, including the World Trade Center, knocking over one of the Twin Towers.
