Whispy Woods is a commonly-recurring tree character in the Kirby series, where he acts as the first boss in most of his appearances. He has appeared in a number of Super Mario–related media, namely in the Super Smash Bros. series and in the German-only Club Nintendo magazine.

HistoryEdit

Club Nintendo magazineEdit

Whispy Woods in Super Mario: Mario im Wunderland

Whispy Woods makes a short appearance in the Club Nintendo comic "Super Mario: Mario im Wunderland." He is the first creature Mario encounters in Wunderland when he accidentally gets there. He does not serve as an enemy here, though; rather he advises Mario to go to Crab, a wizard who is able to fulfill desires.

Super Mario-kunEdit

In volume 7 of Super Mario-kun, Whispy Woods makes a cameo in one panel, apparently among the "items" stolen by the collector.

New Famicom commercialEdit

Whispy Woods appears in a commercial for the New Famicom alongside several other characters. He and the others are later joined by Wario and Link.

Super Smash Bros. seriesEdit

Super Smash Bros.Edit

Whispy Woods also appears in Super Smash Bros. in the Dream Land stage. Occasionally, he will blow in a certain direction, potentially sending players off the stage.

Super Smash Bros. MeleeEdit

Whispy Woods returns in Super Smash Bros. Melee in the background of the Dream Land and Green Greens stages. Like in Super Smash Bros., Whispy Woods will attempt to blow players off the stage. Whispy also gains a new attack in Super Smash Bros. Melee; he can shake himself violently and fling apples at characters. A trophy of Whispy Woods can also be obtained.

Super Smash Bros. BrawlEdit

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Whispy Woods returns in the background of the Green Greens stage, serving the same purpose as he did in Melee.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii UEdit

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Whispy Woods once again appears as a trophy as well as reappearing on the Dream Land (64) DLC stage for both the Wii U and 3DS versions trying to blow players off the stage, as he did in the stage's original Super Smash Bros. appearance.

Super Smash Bros. UltimateEdit

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Whispy Woods reappears in both the Dream Land and Green Greens stages, acting as he did in previous games. He also makes an appearance in the game as a spirit.

A boss enemy from Kirby's Dream Land, Whispy Woods is a big tree that shoots whirlwinds at Kirby. It isn't the toughest enemy: all Kirby has to do is avoid the occasional whirlwind, suck in apples that fall down, and then shoot them back at the tree. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Whispy Woods is quite the blowhard.

Whispy Woods lives deep in the forest, waiting patiently for Kirby to stop by so he can share his delicious apples with the pink hero... That's not true at all, actually. Instead, he drops apples on Kirby, trying to cause him injury. He may look friendly, but remember what they say: don't judge a tree by its bark. (American English)
In the heart of a beautiful green forest, Whispy Woods is waiting to give Kirby some juicy red apples. Isn't that nice? Well...not really, since he drops them on Kirby's head like bombs. If that wasn't bad enough, he'll also suck up the pink puffball and blast him with air. Note to self: be more wary of trees with faces. (British English)
