Chaos is a water-like creature that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. It is known for its ability to change form every time it gets a Chaos Emerald, eventually turning into Perfect Chaos when it has all seven. In the Super Mario franchise, Chaos' only appearance is in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games.

History[edit]

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Chaos appears as a sticker that increases the damage healed by eating food items. The artwork for the sticker is from Sonic Adventure Director's Cut.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

Chaos appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Advanced-class primary grab spirit. It has one slot for support spirits. When equipped, it increases the power of the user's water attacks. Its spirit battle is against a light blue Inkling puppet fighter on the Battlefield form of the stage Fourside. The Inkling is metal, and when it has 50% damage it becomes giant. Being metal makes the Inkling's texture more closely match Chaos's texture, and growing at high damage reflects how Chaos transforms into Perfect Chaos.

Frozen Perfect Chaos
Perfect Chaos in Dream Figure Skating

Chaos makes two appearances in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games.

In Dream Figure Skating, a frozen version of Perfect Chaos appears in the third segment of the Sonic World routine on the Station Square themed skating rink. In a cutscene prior to the segment, it bursts out of the rink just in front of the backdrop, on the opposite side of the players' starting positions. The screen shakes prior to and during its arrival, and Perfect Chaos roars afterward. The narrative goal of the third segment is to defeat Perfect Chaos. This is done across three steps. First, the players use a spin, which allows them to use the Chaos Emeralds from the prior segments of the routine to figuratively enter their Super States. Then, every jump in the routine is used to slam into Perfect Chaos, bouncing off while inflicting damage. Perfect Chaos flashes red and recoils after being hit. There are four groups of jumps in the routine. The first occurs just after the spin and has player 1 and player 4 attack first while player 2 and player 3 attack second. The second group of jumps has player 3 and player 4 attack at about the same time, and the third group of jumps has player 1 and player 2 do the same. The last group of jumps is preceded by all four players lining up back at the starting positions then approaching Perfect Chaos at the same time, and all players jump simultaneously. After that set of jumps, the performance ends with spinning in front of Perfect Chaos. If certain conditions are met, Perfect Chaos will start glowing during the spin, with beams of light bursting out of it. When the spin finishes, Perfect Chaos vanishes in a flash of light. If the conditions are not met, Perfect Chaos does not glow and instead lets out a roar when the spin is completed.

Chaos also appears as a VIP member that gives the player 100 Star Points when spotted.
