Shredder is a character from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, serving as the main antagonist in the franchise. He is depicted as a samurai-esque character who attempts to defeat the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with the help of his two henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady. He appears in the German-exclusive Super Mario Bros. story "Die Mario-Brüder und der Super-Sauger."

History[edit]

Shredder first appears as the caller who calls Mario Bros. Plumbing, where he claims to be the Brooklyn Borough Hall and explains that they have a slogged storm drain on the corner of Kenwood Road and Pioneer Avenue. The Mario Bros., believing Shredder, immediately head to the location. He is later mentioned by Mario when he says that he bought the Super-Sauger from him for an egg and a sandwich, referring to him as a man with "a lot of metal in front of his head."

Later, as Mario and Luigi wonder why Shredder would have commissioned them to use the Super-Sauger on a storm drain, Shredder makes his physical appearance, alongside his henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady, yelling, "BECAUSE THE STUPID TURTLES BLOCK THE SEWERS!" He then yells at them to pump harder, threatening to break their necks if they refuse, scaring away the nearby pedestrians.

Suddenly, Mario shouts that he and Luigi need a twenty-minute break, as their cartoon, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! now begins. Shredder is puzzled by this statement, so Mario explains the general format for his and Luigi's show. Shredder, though initially irritated, agrees to give them their break, explaining that he is a star in his own cartoon, though adds that, once their break is over, they return to continue using the pump on the sewer, to which the Mario Bros. agree to.
