First appearance | Super Mario (Super Mario Land 4) (1990) |
Āreku Taichō is a descendant of Dr. Areku from the year 2159 and the captain of the Federation Army, who only appeared in the Super Mario Land 4 manga. He resembles his ancestors but with some differences: beside the futuristic clothing and the bossy personality, he has a shorter black beard and a black maw hawk.
He appears in the Solar Striker story, as the captain of the Federation Army and leader of the military base on the Moon. Following a video message from the president about Reticulon attacking Earth, he entrusts Marīo and Pichi-hime with a floppy disk to insert in the control panel of the SolarStriker to executre "operation Power Pod". While on their way to the hanger, the two pilots are attacked by Torino Daiō, Reticulon's leader, and then fall in a time portal created by Dr. Areku to the past. When Torino Daiō tries to pull them back, he accidentally grabs their ancestors, Mario and Princess Peach. Once free from his grip, they attempt to run, but Āreku calls them on the video-intercom and, mistaking them for their descendants, yells at them to continue with the mission. Mario follows through, but without the floppy disk, he fails to enter Reticulon's atmosphere. Meanwhile, Torino Daiō destroys the lunar military base and kidnaps Āreku.
Later, when the SolarStriker arrives at city stage of Reticulon, he sees Āreku tied up to a pole by the area boss, Ultra Crusher. He fakes to surrender the captain to Mario, and as he goes down to take the captain back, he discovers him to be a puppet. Ultra Crusher shoots him, now that he is in the open, but the real Mario, worried about a trap, sent the shapeshifting evoluted chocolate Viokun in his place, and shoots the boss down.
After defeating Torino Daiō, destroying his suit and leaving an old and aged Bowser exposed, he surrenders and gives back Āreku. He is then seen having a celebratory picnic with the heroes and Areku, who just fixed his time machine, looking confused at the presence of their lookalikes.
